The new effects are good to see once and then I go back to the originals. Although CGI has come a long way since the special editions were created, these new effects look like fancy cartoons of ships in space, where as the old effects look like grainy, mediocre FILM of a ship going through space.
I now own the entire TOS, plus TNG and just need seasons 3 and 4 of ENTERPRISE. I also own all the films. Does anyone know if DS9 and VOYAGER are coming out on Blu-ray?

Prolly not DS9. TNG was a huge undertaking and, from what I remember, sold less than they'd hoped despite great reviews.

Well at least we have the crossover TROUBLE WITH TRIBBLES episode as a special feature on the TOS Blu-ray.
A few of the TOS 1960s FX shots were superb, but many were mediocre or atrocious. Can't blame anyone for that really because they had to make those shows for the same money as Mannix or Ironside!
The new CGI is great. Very happy with it... and I wouldn't have expected to say that.
Agree with Heath: The new effects aren't "cartoonish" at all (as claimed above), but extremely well done, and they are integrated nicely into the series. A very smooth ride.
To each his own but what fragments I saw showing the new effects put me completely off. I was shocked how it looked like 1990s CGI for "Xena" or "Hercules". At best it looked like an late 90s early 2000s intro of a cheap computergame. The originals may not always have been good but at least they had an excuse, besides they looked like the series it belongs to. The worst offender in the original FX is the failed attempt to zoom into the bridge, starting all the way outside the ship. That was just cheap as "Citizen Kane" shows that it could have been done much smoother. The weakest point were some of the alien design and before anyone yells "Gorn", that one was actually quite good.
I am currently watching s.1 on standard dvd on a cathode ray 20 inch flat screen tv. Playing the sound thru a single separate speaker
I think this is the best way to watch it. I don't like the wide screen shots on the br or the tampering with the sound.
Since I have sen all the eps many times, I am enjoying this 'new' experience. The only time i have gone "wow" over a new cgi vex is on "The Galileo Seven". The scene near the end when the shuttle is expending its fuel is pretty neat and caps off an excellent episode. bro
