I think the "Star Wars Stories" movies (RIP "Anthology") will showcase a variety of different styles, storytelling techniques, color pallettes, etc. The "Episodes" will be in a more familiar Star Wars style.

I also think that it's hard to get a feel for the movie based on one dimly lit shot. If you look closely, quite a bit of the stuff (costume, sets, props) in that photo is iconic Star Wars stuff. The parka on the one character is the same issue as Hoth parkas in Empire (including Han's). If the set is not Yavin Base from Star Wars, the design is very similar.

Correct. Episodes VII, VIII, IX will ape the tradition so closely they're going to be exactly what everyone wants, but we might also get a retread of every major story beat from the initial trilogy. Hopefully that's not the case.

Rogue One is supposed to be in line with "military science fiction" and concerns a mission to steal the Death Star plans. To my knowledge, there won't be Jedis or Ewoks or any of that. It will likely be the darkest film in the cinematic SW canon to date, which is fine with me, though I wonder how exactly they're going to get around the anachronism they've created since we've all seen the opening of the very first film.

In general if someone does a spin off I don't mind them taking it into another creative direction. But as you said, Rogue One is part of the main Star Wars story line and looks so out of place. But I also admit you can't gleam a whole lot from one dark image.

I liked Ron Moore's Battlestar Galactica reboot, and Rogue One so far reminds me of the same aesthetic: hard-boiled action, casualties of war, suicide missions. In other words, it won't smack of "space opera" as much as the tentpole films.

Is that such a bad thing? If Disney really intends to carry through with their plans to release a new Star Wars movie every year, they have to diversify the visual and storytelling styles, or else audiences will get sick of them mighty quick. Just so long as the trilogy w/the original cast remains in the "traditional" Lucas style and sends them out on a good note, I would be happy. I mean, it's not like James Bond movies still look exactly like they did in the mid-60's.

I agree, and I thought my approval of such ("it won't smack of," etc.) was clear enough.

GUYS:

I don't mind posters bringing those mistakes to my attention----but a complaint about one misspelled word after over five hours of agonizing work with a problem-plagued pc and Photobucket is too much.

Dragon, I very rarely post on these boards, but I'm posting today to express 3 things:

1. I read your movie news posts almost every day. When I've been gone a while, I go back to read older ones. These are HANDS DOWN my main source of "industry news" (and I'm someone with access to other industry news sources, but still use your synopses extensively). So while I haven't written it before, just add me to the list who greatly appreciates that you do this for the community. Thanks so much.

2. That said, if the entertainment news summary is taking time/resources/energy that you don't have (or more importantly, don't WANT) to be spending, I won't complain in the slightest if you stop doing this. I'll greatly miss the posts, of course, but I'd much rather know that you stopped doing something that was becoming a very negative experience for you. You don't owe us anything.

3. With regard to the spelling error in this particular posting, I'm not sure if the "complainer" was actually complaining, or if he was looking for clarification. When I first read the original news post, I immediately wondered whether the "correct" original word was actually "leaked" or "released." 2 very different meanings, but both typo possibilities. I have no idea of that other poster's intentions, all I'm saying is that I might have pointed out the same thing- but not as a criticism or a "gotcha"... just as looking for clarification. Again, I have no idea of his motivations, but might that poster have been wondering similarly?

Again, thanks Dragon. Love what you do, but no complaints whatsoever if you decide you need to stop (temporarily or permanently).
