Has the future finally arrived for us Silver Age fans? Is it time to retire my cherished Varese Sarabande CD from 1991?

I've never done a "digital download" before. The price for FLAC is $17.98 at Acoustic Sounds. At HDTracks you can get AIFF, ALAC and WAV also, and for the same price.

What's the story, fellow John Williams fans? What's the transfer really sound like? And is it some kind of re-mix/re-master, or just the re-purposed original?

I'm dying to know, especially with Star Wars soundtrack downloads likely to be here in a few months.

There's already a thread for this:

From what I've heard, the digital release is volume compressed and a little heavy-handed with the hiss reduction. I recommend hanging onto your Varese disc for now.
