I cut back to basic cable and canceled my DVR service from my service provider. However I am starting an erratic work schedule and I will be missing live sports programs.

Are there other options and or devices I can try other renting another DVR from my cable provider?

Since this is live sports it's not something I can watch online after it airs, and unfortunately I won't be able to see the next day re-air on television either.

Now that's going old school. Thxs for the suggestion. I see other devices like Tivo require a monthly fee.

Exactly. When did all this technological "Advancement" take us a step back and cost us monthly fees?

I found this doing a quick search online.

Magnavox MDR557H/F7 1TB Hard Drive/DVD Recorder with Digital Tuner

http://www.walmart.com/ip/36246088?reviews_limit=9&

So DVD recorders have hard drives now so you don't actually have to record onto a DVD disc? It's a little pricey. Renting a DVR from the cable company would be about $180 a year. Of course the DVD recorder pays for itself in the second year.
