TUESDAY, AUGUST 25

STAR WARS: THE FORCE AWAKENS---JJ Abrams said villain Kylo Ren is not named Darth Ren because Kylo is not a Sith and that Kylo, "works under Supreme Leader Snoke, who is a powerful figure on the Dark Side of the Force...That all came out of conversations about what would have happened if the Nazis all went to Argentina but then started working together again? What could be born of that? Could The First Order exist as a group that actually admired The Empire? Could the work of The Empire be seen as unfulfilled? And could Vader be a martyr? Could there be a need to see through what didn't get done?"
Also co-star Donnie Yen released a photo showing two new THE FORCE AWAKENS Stormtrooper helmets with a helmet from the original movie.

GAMBIT---Lea Seydoux (SPECTRE) has been offered the lead female role of Bella Donna Boudreaux in the Channing Tatum X-Men spinoff movie.

FEAR THE WALKING DEAD---the premiere episode drew 10.1 million viewers which is the most in cable tv history.

MAN OF STEEL---George Miller (MAD MAX) is in talks to direct a DC Comics movie, possibly MAN OF STEEL 2, but a rumor says the sequel is on hold.

TRUE DETECTIVE---Quentin Tarantino commented on the series, " tried to watch the first episode of season one...didn't get into it at all."
He added, "I thought it was really boring. And season two looks awful. Just the trailer - all these handsome actors trying to not be handsome and walking around looking like the weight of the world is on their shoulders. It's so serious, and they're so tortured, trying to look miserable with their mustaches and grungy clothes."

OUTLANDER---spoiler alert (see below).

JAMES BOND---Pierce Brosnan commented on a gay 007, “Sure. Why not? Actually, I don’t know how it would work. I don’t think Barbara [co-producer Barbara Broccoli] would allow a gay Bond to happen in her lifetime. But it would certainly make for interesting viewing.”

TO THE WHITE SEA---Warner Bros. movie underway based on the World War II novel by James Dickey (DELIVERANCE) about the lone surviving crewman of a B-29 bomber shot down over Tokyo and his epic journey to escape to Alaska.

THE GIRL ON THE TRAIN---Haley Bennett (THE EQUALIZER) will co-star with Emily Blunt and Rebecca Ferguson in this DreamWorks movie based on the novel.

THE FLASH---Violet Beane will play Jesse Quick, and Demore Barnes will play Tokamak.

WOODY ALLEN---Bruce Willis has left Allen's latest untitled movie, supposedly due to a schedule conflict, but a source said Willis was fired by Allen, ”Yep. Fired. A friend is on the film. Bruce couldn't remember a line. Cue cards were no help. Cast were losing their minds.”

THE RANCH---Debra Winger (AN OFFICER AND A GENTLEMAN) will co-star with Ashton Kutcher, Sam Elliott and Danny Masterson in this Netflix sitcom about two brothers trying to run their family's ranch in Colorado.

BLADE---sources say Marvel Studios is interested in rebooting the series which would focus on Fallon Grey who is Blade's daughter. Wesley Snipes has hinted he's been in talks to return as Blade.

OUTLANDER---a casting call for Season 2 is for Brianna, daughter of Jamie and Claire, “strong-minded, intelligent beyond her years with an effortless charm and sparkling sense of humor (traits inherited from both her mother and father. She also has a scholastic mindset, with a healthy dose of American strength, having been born and bred in Boston under the watchful eye of professor and historian Frank Randall.”

Haven't read the book but that's a great cast.

Have to admit most of what comes out of Abrams's mouth is stupid but thats a pretty interesting slant.

What's Woody doing having Bruce reading lines...he should be shooting at people, that's what he does.

Actually I do find that hard to believe.

I remember reading a quote from Daniel Craig, where he suggested to producers that Bond should have a gay encounter, but it was nixed.

Despite the fact that the movie Bond is little more than a violent comic book, I've always thought of him as a predatory sociopath, willing to do anything to achieve his objective, or, to satisfy whatever appetite he feels at the moment. Rather like the Edward Fox assassin in THE DAY OF THE JACKAL (1973), Bond is a man who pretty much does what he feels like, with very little nod to societal morals, or concern for anyone else's feelings. A self-consuming narcissist.

You just described Gérard Depardieu in "Going Places".

As I'm reading the novels (I'm bouncing between the original Flemings and the later Gardner novels - "For Special Services" was *terrible*), I definitely think there is a huge streak of that sociopathic tendency in the character. Timothy Dalton's rendition also had this about him, particularly in License To Kill. (I will never not laugh at how barely contained Dalton's anger is when M confronts him at the Hemingway House.)

I do think, however, hes very much about "societal morals" - he's an Operator for King and Country, after all - but he does have a bit of "devil may care" in how he gets to those morals or defending them.

As opposed to, say, Jean Reno's character in La Femme Nikita, who is simply a pure sociopath.
