Hi all,

According to the new booklet accompanying "The Genius of Film Music" conducted by John Mauceri, the selection from Goldsmith's Star Trek: The Motion Picture is 7'34". It was commissioned by Goldsmith's wife and has the same orchestrations from the film. I am intrigued! Has anyone on here heard this piece before and how is it different form the original cue?

Click on the second photo to see the Track Listings. The 25 minute CLEOPATRA SYMPHONY (Alex North) looks particularly interesting.

Well, The Enterprise is one of my favorite pieces of music ever. Hearing it expanded by a minute and a half would be... Interesting.

What if it's the same piece, just played at a VERY slow tempo? I hope not....

Excellent - thanks. Judging by the 30-seconds available, sounds just fine. And it will be in such interesting company, this should be a tremendous album.

The 30s sample sounds like an excerpt from 'Floating Office' taken at a slower tempo than the OST to my ears. So it's definitely not just a re-do of 'The Enterprise'.

It sound like Floating Office by way of Secret of NIMH. It's lovely. I bet it's mixed in as an intro to The Enterprise. Yeah, I'll buy this.

However the editorial review "In particular this is the first ever release of the Cleopatra film music. "is wrong. Varese Sarabande released a 2 disc expansion and I believe Cleopatra is also available on iTunes.

Yep, that is certainly "Floating Office" heard in that 30 second clip, so Mauceri must have combined this cue with "The Enyerprise" to create this concert version. Pretty neat!

John Mauceri was the chancellor of my alma mater and we had a great conversation about this piece my Freshman year. It was great having someone like him at that institution, even though may weren't especially fond of him for various reasons.

You know, that sounds about right. Floating Office is a stunning little cue in it's own right. Nice to get it as part of this suite.

I was at this concert with my friend Christopher Gunning
