Music Box Records is pleased to present on the same album two original motion picture soundtracks composed by Gabriel Yared and mostly unreleased on CD: Sarah (1983) directed by Maurice Dugowson and Désordre (1986) directed by Olivier Assayas (his first full-length feature). These two scores show Gabriel Yared’s interest in innovative ambiances and sound in his early years of film composing.

For Sarah, Gabriel Yared composed his score around the second movement of Robert Schumann’s Piano Quintet in E-flat major, Op. 44 with its numerous variations. L'anniversaire is Sarah’s other great theme, associated with the character of Gabrielle Lazure. This theme starts out as a little romantic ballad, then becomes coloured with jazz influences. Other pieces are a very well balanced mix of a string orchestra and synthetic sounds which envelop the film in the fantastic.

For Désordre, Gabriel Yared composed his score in a classical vein, dominated by cello. The music becomes the internal voice of the characters, expressing their feelings.

In collaboration with Gabriel Yared, Music Box Records presents for the first time on CD these two expanded scores newly remastered from the original session stereo master tapes.

I ordered after you guys, maybe around Sep 3rd or 4th, and my CD has just arrived signed (I'd call it a squiggle), on a 2nd cover provided along with the sealed original. So you should be ok.

Does anyone else have this yet?

There is a horrid audio glitch at 1:35 on Track 10. I don't know if it's just mine, or something that will be on all copies.

Here's our replying. Email also sent to McD.

In regards to your remark, we confirm you that it is not a glitch as you seem to pretend it but it is more an instrument sound (or if you prefer a 'room noise’’). We always do our best to reduce these technical / human imperfections during the music recording but sometimes we cannot reduce or erase it without altering the music. Moreover, it appears on a piece (track 10: L'incendie du décor / La répétition dans le loft) with the passionate performance of the string quartet.
Thank you for your understanding and enjoy Gabriel Yared’s music!

Best,
MUSIC BOX RECORDS

Thanks for your response. I actually have this track already on another CD (a Yared Promo titled 'Music Sales Film & TV') and the 'sound' is also present there. It's also present on Yared's website where the track has been available for some time (as a clip of the score). So whatever it is, it's not a new result of Music Box's transfer. (I didn't think to check those other sources earlier - which confirm I don't have a faulty disc).

But it still sounds to me like a very particular digital glitch I've heard several times before, usually on CDRs (whether it's rock or spoken word), and nothing like the sound being produced, or an accident in recording (like a music stand falling over during the finale to Shore's Silence of the Lambs, etc). Maybe another listener can comment when they hear the disc.

FYI: there are other problems on the track, including a sudden drop out on the left channel at 0:47 (also present previously). I don't think it was transferred to digital very well, whenever that took place.
