I happen to be very fond of "War of the Worlds" (the Williams score, obviously). I don't think it has a lot of fans, but I'm one.

I think that everything about that movie is underrated. I should put that on now.
grrr not on streaming.

WHERE ARE YOUR STREAMING GODS NOWWWWW, TOM???????????????

I'm out of their favor today. frown
Must have angered them by organizing my CD collection.

Haha, seems like the movie is always on HBO. You can listen to the album on the various streaming sites, though. This was one of the first iTunes-exclusive releases for a soundtrack, was it not? Meaning that they had the exclusive for about a week or so before the CD. In all its 128 AAC glory...

Here is the Silva compilation. I remember I wanted to buy it but I never did. I wonder how the liner notes are?

I always liked Over The Top and the song instrumentals used throughout. Really lovely stuff there.

Well, that's on another disc, the Stallone one.

War of the Worlds is the one Spielberg-Williams collaboration where I felt Jerry Goldsmith's touch would have been better – knowing what he was capable of evoking with Poltergeist, for example. (Fear and intelligence behind the curtain, so to speak.) Of course, my opinion was moot even then – Goldsmith had passed away the year before.

As mentioned a few posts up, I have the Costner disc in this series. So going by that one, it had an 8 page booklet (I think) with brief notes on each film and the score (I actually think they may have been by James Fitz but I'm not sure). No pictures, but I'm sure it came with one of those slipcase things. I would imagine the Cruise one would be similar.

The music was good on that one too - Barry, Jarre, Newton Howard, Horner, Morricone, Silvestri, Williams and more. All good stuff.
