Just announced from Sepia Records..... a 2 CD set of the Soundtrack from 1963’s "The Best of Cinerama”.
This is what they say.....
"THE BEST OF CINERAMA was released in 1963, a greatest hits package film featuring the finest moments from the Cinerama travelogues (CINERAMA HOLIDAY, SEVEN WONDERS OF THE WORLD, SEARCH FOR PARADISE, SOUTH SEAS ADVENTURE). The soundtrack here has been mixed in full STEREO from 6 & 7 track Cinerama 35mm full coats and presented in Dolby Surround with music first time on CD. Bonus extras include alternate takes of music from the original 7-track 35mm coats.”
Featuring 40 tracks, this sounds like a winner. I just ordered mine.
This is a really nice set. The highlights include about 9:30 from the original 1955 recording of Jerome Moross'"The Holy Land" from THE SEVEN WONDERS OF THE WORLD which is not on Sepia's single CD of that score. But the real treasures are the alternate takes from THIS IS CINERAMA. The best are "Flying Across America, Pt. 1,""Flying Across America, Pt. 2," and the "Stereophonic Sound Demonstration." Although these are earlier takes, and the orchestra is not as together as in the final takes in the film, it is great to get this music without narration, and in such gorgeous stereo sound.
