The old thread for this score never really got started (and went a bit West after Mr Jack's comment). http://filmscoremonthly.com/board/posts.cfm?threadID=29566&forumID=1&archive=1

Anyway.
11 minutes of score on the Scotti Bros/Cinerama label CD. What we do have is very nice indeed (Sarah's Theme, Snow Dance, Never Talk)...but 11 minutes is a bit rubbish innit.
Some of the songs are admittedly okay, even famous ones on there.
The score is lush, orchestral, some dreamy synths. Typical Pino.
Is there much score missing from the film (I've never seen it...but Mr Jack made it sound good) wink
I imagine Quartet, Intrada or Kritzerland would be a most likely complete score issuer, but Pino ain't a big seller, unless the film is a bit iconic?
Thoughts?

Bizarrely, I was going to post a similar thread having watched this last week. There's definitely enough score in the movie for a full album and it'd be a day one purchase for me.

I kinda-sorta like what's on album, I'd entertain more. It is, as stated, quintessentially Donaggio in its application of simple thematic structures and pop/electronic elements.

Not wanting to get tangental here or off-topic, but has he written anything else like his HERCULES score? It was so robust, well-orchestrated and brawny that I almost don't believe it came from Donaggio's pen.

Last year I actually watched "Never Talk to Strangers" just to hear Donaggio's complete score, and it's one of his very, very best, up there with "Dressed to Kill." It's also a lengthy score with a great deal of highlights. It's good that at least 11 minutes of it are out there, but the entire score is a great work and should be released.

bobb, Pino hasn't written another score as brassy and majestic as HERCULES that I know of, but there are scores like Botte Di Natale, iI Mio West and those adventure scores on the Cannon/Silva compilations that flex his muscles a bit more beyond his Herrmannesque thriller style.
I vaguely recall Mysteries of the Dark Jungle and Indio having broad adventure music, but they are LP only releases at present.

The 2 or 3 of you in this thread who watched the movie are 2 or 3 more than who saw this absolutely generic movie with me at the theater back when this came out. In retrospect, it's hard to believe something like this was a theatrical release at all!

"Never Talk to Strangers" was among the last of the 'erotic neo noir' films that Hollywood was still churning out in the mid '90s, but it's not one of the fun ones - despite the budget and stars it's really just a Lifetime thriller with a senseless twist. But Donaggio channeled the melodrama and sensuality and just scored the hell out of it - he must have written about 60-70 minutes of music and it's mixed in real loud and clear on the soundtrack. "Snow Dance" on the album is the only 'poppy' cue I can remember and is not really representative of the rest of the score - overall it's very dark, Romantic, suspenseful beauty, and it would be a great listen on its own. It's absolutely my favorite unreleased Donaggio and easily his best score of the 90s.

Actually, Mysteries of the Dark Jungle had a CD release. I believe it was on the RCA label. Perhaps the closest any other Donaggio score comes to the Hercules sound would be The Barbarians, which was an early Intrada release, although I seem to recall it was rather heavy on the use of synthesizer and drum machines.

My favorite piece of music from NTTS is Her Body Makes Vows by Exchange:
