Strangely enough, there was no topic on this score.

I know it is extremely reviled as the score won the Academy Award in a stupid move as pity consolation for the film. I was asking myself if this score could ever get a release on cd?

It sounds like a cheesy ROCKY rip-off, it won the Oscar - I assume - cos most voters thought the songs in the film were really good and it denied David Newman what would have been a deserved accolade for his fantastic score to Anastasia.
I actually think the film is terrible too.

I can't remember any of the score, and I have to agree with Kev that the film is dreadful.

Not only was it a Rocky rip-off, but if memory serves, Bill Conti was musical director at the 1998 Oscars and had to play a variation of his theme during Anne Dudley's winning walk of shame.

Although Dudley has written some fine film music in her career so far, at least the Academy were consistent in their regular folly of awarding a composers' worst/weakest/least deserving score when handing out Mr Bronze!

I remember how enormously popular this film was when it first came out, but it's been years since I've read or heard the title mentioned anywhere.

Anne Dudley is talented but this score isn't much - it's probably her weakest work and the Oscar win is bizarre. The Academy FYI promo wasn't even 10 minutes, if I recall correctly.

It would have been a deserved accolade for David Newman or Danny Elfman that year - in fact I think it was the closest Elfman ever came to holding the statuette as MIB was a great success and could well have been the Academy's second choice behind Dudley (BTW I find "The Full Monty" a warm and funny film).
To tell you the truth I believe ANASTASIA's songs by Flaherty & Ahrens were even more Oscar worthy than the score. "Once Upon a December", "Learn to Do It", "Paris Holds the Key" - oh, I love 'em!...

There are about 20 minutes of score in the movie, more than the complete score of Michel Legrand's "Summer of '42". Maybe there are also some alternate or unused cues which it would be interesting to hear.
