Here being sold on ebay, interestingly mentions that a Soundtrack LP was being released by Columbia Records. Well, that never happened.

At ebay, you can zoom into the different photos and see it under the Exploitation Heading. We waited long for that Soundtrack to come out. What a great Rocking Score by Jerry!

Any info provided on a tracklist? Its a pretty short score so I'd imagine only a few short tracks would have been left off. Will be picking up the book by the way.

The Varese Club CD contains every cue Goldsmith recorded for ESCAPE.

The planned LP left off the short, transition cues and news source. The only significant omission for the planned LP is the cue R9-P3 "A Starry Night," as Cornelius and Zira wander along the hills in Long Beach at night, admiring the city lights, Zira dumps her suitcase in the oil pump and the clanging chord hangs over the cut to the next morning when the workers find the suitcase. IMHO, I probably would have been very disappointed to find that particular cue missing if an LP had been produced!

Interesting.
Of all the cues in this score, the one I would have thought Goldsmith would have most likely excised for a potential album would have been the shopping cue. Especially since it wasn't included in Varese's original suite.
Thanks.

I absolutely dread listening to that cue. It is unchecked in itunes lol. It reminds me of that other unchecked track "Love theme from Coma" for the other otherwise excellent release of Coma. smile

P.S. The highlight of Escape is definitely that main title. The best parts of the score IMO are when its either reprised or expanded upon.

Quite the opposite feelings were true about "Shopping Spree" back in the spring of 1971. I found a test vinyl which featured “Shopping Spree” on side A and “End Title” on side B. Also, Goldsmith himself was very happy with the score and even volunteered his time to producer Arthur Jacobs to help promote the picture with the lead actors. But, again there's more info in the book I don't want to give away here! wink

The lack of an ESCAPE Lp back in '71, which greatly disappointed me at the time, was part of a general lack of support from the studio to properly promote the picture, which pissed Jacobs off. Anyone who wants to know why the later APES sequels were as low-budget as they were just needs to know that Fox was in bad shape back then.

Hopefully with advances in audio technology the horrible wow in "The Labor Continues" can be repaired. Much like Beneath The Twelve Mile Reef.
