It is quite hilarious.

Once again, the film score community expects the entire universe to accommodate their idiosyncrasies.

There have been so many threads here over the years along the lines of "Why can't film score fans get laid." Then you read their reactions to vinyl reissues and it appears that they never leave their houses, or apartments (or basements).

Ha! Film Score nerds banging on about how great CDs are, a format itself at it's nadir. I doubt future generations will reminisce with fond nostalgia about those horribly overpriced little silver discs, housed in crappy plastic cases with tiny booklets held together with two staples. Ever go to a charity or dollar/pound shop? They are coming down with CDs, people can't wait to get rid of them and no one wants to buy them!

As was the case with Vinyl in the 90s... Most people were selling it and the only people I knew who still bought it were DJ's and underground genres. As someone who bought vinyl throughout the 90s, you couldn't find anything in stores, it hasn't been until the early 00s that I saw big outlets carrying vinyl again to the point where they now have more on offer than they do CDs.

As for getting laid, latex is better than vinyl. wink

Not a vinyl hater. Just think it's a marketing gimmick and the majority of new collectors will get over the fad in a year or two. Then we will have landfills full of turntables. It's the poster child for consumer waste. Now I do have issues when a score gets a vinyl only release. CD's are still a viable listening platform.

This basically. Though you can't say anything bad about vinyl because the PC police will come after you. Go figure.

Nothing wrong with hating vinyl. I'm amused by the folks who are unaware of the vinyl resurgence and then act like it is a personal affront when they find out about it 15 years later.

Ah yes, but those are the same people who throw rocks at clouds and wait for music to stream from the sky into a bucket.

first off, vinyl never went away, except, if you stopped noticing it, in your periphery.

and second, beyond their naturally warmer and bass-friendly characteristic, analogue systems do not have their limitations pre-set, meaning a well produced vinyl - even from a digital recording - can exploit pushed volume and things like harmonic distortion to full effect, aspects which are impossible to obtain through digital playback. these things are mostly not vital to film scores of course, but they are vital to many many other genres, which will go on regardless of whether or not your perceived 'fad' is over.

I don't get it! Where are all those people who were ringing the bell in favor of digital files and against CDs. Does anyone in its senses could think that LPs are indeed the future?!

Who would have thought tattooing or getting various body parts pierced for metal objects would become such a big trend either. All night nail salons. Massive animal poaching in search of aphrodisiacs. No question about it - humans are perverse, gullible creatures.

You can still play vinyl, a lot of old record players are build to last. I doubt most cd players will outlive the next ten years. What to do with cd's when they are unplayable?

Not into vinyl, nor do I hate it, so I don't have a horse in this race, but there is something that I'm curious about. More often than not, when a CD is shipped to me, there's some significant damage to the case, be it the central spindle being broken or the case chipped and cracked. I don't know what the postal service does to make this happen, but I've wondered how safe it would be to have vinyl albums shipped - is there some kind of special packaging for them? Surely if they were in cardboard sleeves and treated the way CDs are sometimes treated, they'd end up dented or cracked? How much does it cost to ship a vinyl anyways?

Chris.

I keep meaning to invest in tattoo removal firms. Methinks they'll be a booming business in about 5 years or so given some of the ill advised tattoos I see popping up these days.

that's probably true for cell phones, but I dont see people clamoring for a return of phone booths, or rotary dial landline phones. And as someone without a cell phone, I do wish phone booths still existed.

If you ship Media rate I think it's only $5. And oddly enough, they usually arrive fine. They still make the mailers for LPs, and it varies from thin to corrugated cardboard. A slightly different issue - the album cardboard sleeves themselves tend to fall apart from the disc cutting into them over time.

I have no problem with how any people listen to their music. CD, vinyl, Mp's etc. Whatever a person wants is fine with me.

My problem would be that I listen to my film scores in my car, especially on long trips. Not sure how I could possibly do that with vinyl.
