Army of Darkness was the first CD i ever bought. It's ace fun music right from the off. But i was rewatching Army the other day for the first time in about 8 years and noticed bits of music here and there that were actually pretty nice that aren't on the CD. I just can't recall if it added up to too much. Any Deadites out there know?

Also, after being initially skeptical, i'm looking forward to the ASH V EVIL DEAD TV Series. I'd forgotten how deliriously daffy and intentionally slapstick and silly Army was. Definitely funnier than i remember.

Don't know really much about an expansion except the Danny Elfman stuff but I am with you being excited about the new tv series. I always kinda enjoyed Army of Darkness. Maybe because it was so different and more popcorn version of the series. I know I will definitely be buying the new Army of Darkness Collectors Edition blu-ray next month.

I've got a 5 disc set of Army of Darkness with i think 2 Blu-Rays and 3 DVDs of the various versions - so not sure if one of the versions in there will be the same as the new Scream Factory version coming out, but i WOULD buy it if it had a new commentary, just for that. I could listen to them yammering on about the film all day.

I have that same set. The Scream Factory edition features everything that was in that plus a 90 minute documentary and an hour of KNB behind the scenes footage.

As for the music, there's a few little pieces (transitional pieces and original film versions of "Bone'Anza" and "Ash in Chains") but the vast majority of the score is on the album. Danny Elfman only did the "March of the Dead."

I'd rather have a brand new mix down of the current album.

I think there is room for improvement.

There are a handful of distinct audio warbles in this score that have always driven me nuts — one in "Building the Deathcoaster" and at least two in the "End Titles" (where the graveyard-explodes and the "something's wrong, some thing is amiss..." cues are reprised.)

I just revisited this score a few months ago when someone brought it up. I'd forgotten how good it was.

I remember seeing Mr. Campbell about ten years ago. Someone asked him about the latest (!) dvd of Evil Dead. He laughed and said "You poor bastards."

The man has a point.

And this isn't including VHS or the trilogy I gave to my friend.

Yes, the album is a very pleasant listen. I believe there are only a few short pieces missing or alternate sections. One that comes to mind is this short statement of the theme for solo trumpet(?) beginning at 1m22s in this clip:

Flip, Timothy, that's a lot o' Army of Darkness.

edern, yes, those little snippets i liked and if they re-released i wouldn't mind them being included. I also likd one little bit in the graveyard, where i think the camera is moving up to Evil Ash, and maybe when it introdces Evil Sheila for the first time and there's some nice little transition music there, i think strings and woodwinds. It's brief but really nice.

This is getting another release on vinyl and CD in April. It’s been remastered, but nothing appears to have been expanded. Same 21 tracks. I’m curious to know what the difference in audio quality will be, but no samples have been posted yet.

The soundtrack for Sam Raimi's 1990's classic Army of Darkness film has been newly remastered by composer Joe LoDuca for the vinyl release available on Record Store Day and this Limited Edition CD available only on VareseSarabande.com. The package also includes new notes and images.

Army of Darkness is a continuation of Raimi's Evil Dead series, which LoDuca also composed and also starred Bruce Campbell as Ash. Years later, LoDuca continued to score Evil Dead projects through the Starz series, Ash vs The Evil Dead, which ran from 2015–2018. Army of Darkness is musically distinct, however, in having a secondary composer contribution: Danny Elfman's (Batman, Pee-wee's Big Adventure, The Simpsons) killer theme "March of the Dead."

It IS perfect the way it is.

But i wouldn't mind more. It's a great score.

I've never even tried listening to the tracks in film order. I like the way they have it in the album.

Will have to check this new remastered version coming out.

As it is, there's quite a lot of music on the album that isn't in the film (at least, in the theatrical version of the film, which is the version most fresh in my mind). In particular, the album includes a beautiful statement of the love theme that definitely isn't in the theatrical cut, which is (most of) the first half of this track:

The album also includes a big Finale cue that was composed for the eventually excised ending. With the exception of the aforementioned transitional cues (which I'll admit I personally can't recall at the moment), the album is already generously and surprisingly "expanded."

I think this is a great score, by a mile my favorite thing LoDuca has done.

This album must exist in a multitude of expanded forms and formats, in numerically uncountable variations therein, for the sole purpose that it bothers Thor that he doesn't get his way and that others can be happy while he never will be.

I, for one, hope that this album sells well enough that Varese reprints the old Evil Dead 1+2 album which has been out of print for seemingly a millennia.

Evil Dead 2 tracks Behemoth and the closing credits are immense. I played them to death. Before i owned the soundtrack i'd rewatch the end of the film for the music.

I've always wished LoDuca would have gotten around to re-recording at least "Hail the…/End Titles" with a bigger orchestra.

It would be nice if they spelled the composer's name right on the new vinyl release.

It's NOT JoSEPH LODUCA.
