Try getting away with female nudity in a PG-rated movie today! (The movie's turned up on the UK's Channel 5 in the afternoons - I've never seen it in full, but I doubt that scene survived the scissors. Although I believe the end credits are left intact, which is good.)
The obituary for Guillermin in The Telegraph credits him with directing 1976's MIDWAY. It's unclear how much work Guillermin may have done on the film MIDWAY. According to a 14 April 1975 article in Boxoffice magazine, Jack Smight replaced Guillermin as director on the film. It's unclear when shooting on MIDWAY began. Location shooting on the film concluded over the 24-25 May 1975 weekend, near Pensacola, FL. Shooting at Universal Studios in Los Angeles, CA, started on 27 May 1975. Guillermin may have just been involved in pre-production work on the film, or he may have actually done some of the early shooting. Only Jack Smight is credited on the film.
I'm sure P.J.'s unenlightened portrayal of a vicious band of villainous gays is going to keep it off the home video market for some time. That and the grisly subway death of another of the secondary bad guys.
(The network tv edit of the film, done back in the late 60's, twists itself in knots trying to work around the film's many unsavory elements.)
Mr. G deserves some kind of award for the full-frontal strip tease by Mariana Hill in EL CONDOR!! That James Coburn film that never got a release - who knew!!!!!!!!!?????
