THURSDAY, OCTOBER 1

THE MAN WHO SHOT LIBERTY VALANCE---Paramount Pictures remake of the classic 1962 Western is underway. The remake may be set in 1980s western Pennsylvania during the collapse of the steel and automobile industries. Writer Terence Winter (THE WOLF OF WALL STREET, BOARDWALK EMPIRE) is no longer involved with the remake. The original movie starred John Wayne, Jimmy Stewart and Lee Marvin.

MAD MAX---George Miller confirmed he's in talks with Warner Bros. for more MAD MAX movies. He also commented on rumors he would direct MAN OF STEEL 2, "There's discussions about them [more MAD MAX films] right now. I hope the next film I make is a very small film without any special effects and not many stunts."

WATCHMEN---HBO is in talks with Zack Snyder for a tv series based on his 2009 superhero movie.

THE KING OF OIL---movie underway based on the book THE KING OF OIL: THE SECRET LIVES OF MARC RICH. Rich was the world's wealthiest oil and commodities trader who was federally indicted for income tax evasion and illegal oil deals with Iran during the US hostage crisis. Rich was later pardoned by President Bill Clinton.

ROBIN HOOD: ORIGINS---four candidates for the female lead for the movie about robin Hood's early days are Eve Hewson (THE KNICK), Gaite Jansen (SUPERNOVA), Lucy Fry (VAMPIRE ACADEMY) and Gugu Mbatha-Raw (BELLE).

A NIGHTMARE ON ELM STREET---Robert Englund said he won't return for the rumored remake, "Just for the record, I will NOT be starring as Freddy in any new Nightmare projects, real or fictional." Englund said earlier he might return in another role instead of Freddy Krueger.

TERMINATOR: GENISYS---a source said the two sequels to the financially disappointing GENISYS are in doubt, "the notion of a 'Terminator' universe is on hold indefinitely."

FURIOUS 8---Vin Diesel wants Rob Cohen (THE FAST AND THE FURIOUS) to direct the sequel.

THE KINGKILLER CHRONICLE---Lionsgate bought the movie/tv/video game rights to the novel series.

BLACK ICE---MGM remake underway of the 2007 Finnish movie about a love triangle between a woman, her husband and her husband's mistress.

THE BOY WHO DREW MONSTERS---movie underway based on the novel about a young boy, afflicted with Asperger's Syndrome and agoraphobia, who draws monsters who come to life. James Wan (FURIOUS 7) is the producer.

MR. X---movie underway based on the Peter Straub horror novel with Josh Boone (THE FAULT IN OUR STARS) as the possible director.

GRACELAND---USA Network canceled the series.

500 QUESTIONS---ABC renewed the series.

I'm not knocking the film, haven't seen it ,and I'm sure it's a lot better than most of the other summer releases. But It's really odd how a film that bombed at the box office gets so much positive news and attention. I guess the studio feels this is going to do gang busters in streaming and home video, so it's worth pumping it up for the enviable trilogy.

Hi buddy!smileIt made almost $400 million worldwide more than doubling it's $150 million budget. Which is pretty good considering the last film in the series made about $30 million 30 years ago. Plus FURY ROAD is rated R, not PG-13. It really is a great film, my all time favorite. You should really see it, and I hope you like it!smileI sure hope they do make more.

I'm interested in seeing it. Just wasn't a priority for me. Hmm, it's on iTunes rental, streaming for $5. Sound like a deal to me.

You should've caught Fury Road on the big screen. That's the proper way to experience a movie like that.

And I think it's great that for once (at the very least) a movie wasn't measured by its gross income to gauge its quality. No doubt when The Force Awakens arrives, it will be The Greatest Film Ever because it banks a billion a week for the first month.

As for George's "the next film I make" remark...I find that VERY interesting. Because Christopher Nolan said something not dissimilar about the movie that became The Dark Knight Rises. It was something to the effect of "I imagine it being a smaller, more personal film."

Remake Liberty Valance? There is just so much wrong with that idea.

There are occasions where I wished on saw a film in the theater when I didn't.
I'll have to settle for my moderately sized HD big screen TV, and my very large external speakers. wink

Totally agree! cool

Yup, I'm guilty of that too.

And it's not a remake of The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance, but a modern film with some of the same plot points...& it probably won't get made anyway.
