Tom Holkenborg (a.k.a. Junkie XL) has been confirmed as the composer of 2016's Deadpool starring Ryan Reynolds.

Don't let the door hit you on the way out!!

And on subject. I look forward to what he does with this. Should be pretty entertaining.

I'm reminded of an old Stan Lee exclamation on a comic cover: "Because no one demanded it!"

Very exciting news. Guy hardly gets any scoring gigs.

And yes that is sarcasm.

Excuse me while I bafle all over the place.

His best move now would be to make a score without a single electronic of any kind.
But my bet is that he will not do that.

I am however happy that he has apparently discontinued the tacky use of his DJ name.

Finally a film that is a perfect fit for Junkie. The movie looks so horrible with the rapper attitude all throughout the trailers that I can see no better composer to pound viewers over the head with dubstep and other synths.

Not who I'd have chosen, but this film could be scored with a monkey smashing a keytar against the wall and I'd still see it.

BLACK MASS had some nice passages. This could be good.

12. Deadpool Rap – Teamheadkick

Oh yeah, that'll be awsome. It reminds me of: "Go ninja, go ninja, GO! Go ninja, go ninja, GO!"

And I had to re-read that band name. What a difference one letter can make.

Sample of the soundtrack:
http://www.factmag.com/2016/01/25/deadpool-junkie-xl-soundtrack/

“[Deadpool] is such a fantastic, over arrogant, extremely funny, swagger-heavy, violent character,” he says. To channel that, Holkenborg crafted a score built with vintage drum machines, modular synths alongside live drums and bass. As he puts it: it’s Miami Vice meets Mad Max. Today you can hear that mixture in action on the new track ‘Maximum Effort’.

Soundtrack to be released on March 3 via Milan Records.

Some of the sounds definitely harken back to the 80's (the "Beat It" noise!), but it all sounds like a goddamned, ADD mess.

I love the vintage 80's sounds, but judging from the sample provided, the score is probably going to consist of bass and drum samples and not much orchestral elements. I'll be surprised if Deadpool actually gets a "theme."

What? You don't hear his "theme" in that cue? There isn't much there but I can see Junkie calling part of that a theme. wink

I truly couldn't agree more. I enjoy Holkenborg's compositions but that sample completely turned me off of any interest towards the score.

Sounds like completely soulless electronic garbage. The same type of score that Henry Jackman applied to G.I. Joe: Retaliation. Even Holkenborg's score to Point Break sounded like someone was a little more focused and trying to create a sense of heartfelt emotion.. And most of that sounded like a rip of Atli Orvarrsson's Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters

Sounds pretty cool, technically impressive (especially at the beginning, I was a bit sonically awed). The track lost its lustre as it went on. I'll reserve judgment on the score until I hear more tracks from the score, can't really judge a score by one track alone...

"...can't really judge a score by one track alone." Do you mean Deputy that I can't judge da Vinci's Mona Lisa by only seeing one eye, and that I can't judge a Robert Frost poem my reading its first two words? That hardly seems fair. wink

Hey, if you want to you go right ahead, Joan. big grin Maybe you feel like Mona's giving you the evil eye. What did you do to piss her off this time?
