I love the compilations "Bombay the Hard Way" and "Doob Doob O'Rama."
Are there other Bollywood or Asian Cinema compilations that specifically focus on stuff that incorporates 60s or 70s film music aesthetics from the west? For example, 70s blaxploitation/cop show funk, spy music, bossa, etc?
I used to buy many 60s and 70s Indian film music cassettes - no idea where they are now - from Indian grocers, and there would always be a couple of money cuts, but stylistically, they could be all over the map.
I love Bollywood soundtracks and have done several threads on them over the years (not that popular here, unfortunately). But I've mostly focussed on particular films and scores, not compilations. The only Bollywood compilation I'm aware of that MIGHT suit your criteria (the timeframe is a bit later, but the aesthetics are very retro) is this:
I also recommend Bollywood Bloodbath, which isn't nearly as horrific as I'd imagined based on the cover art and source material but more solid and soundworthy than most '70s Bollywood comps.
R.D. Burman is awesome -- one of the biggest Bollywood composers, for sure, mostly famous for SHOLAY, a cornerstone of Indian cinema (and a nice flick too which I have on DVD).

He's da MAN! What a Legend! His wife too is a legend the famous crooner Asha Bhosle (who herself is the sister of Lata Manageshkar the other legend of India -the pride of the subcontinent.

Cool! I wasn't aware of the link to Lata. Is she still doing film songs, btw? One would think the voice isn't what it used to be when you're 86 years old.

Yes she is. Although Lata didnt marry. They have two more sisters I think. But only Asha & Lata are the pure vocalists here. Lata Mangeshkar is 86 and still going strong (her classic voice is not the same as before ofcourse) has certainly retired but occasionally she comes and does a new song a year. She recently worked with A.R. Rahman this year for a film called FAN to be released next year with Shahrukh Khan as its leading star.
