EN MAIS FAIS CE QU'IL TE PLAIT
Music Composed, Orchestrated and Conducted by Ennio Morricone
Performed by The Roma Sinfonietta

Quartet Records is very proud to present the first new score by Maestro Ennio Morricone since Giussepe Tornatore’s La Megliore Offerta (The Best Offer) (2013).

Returning to French cinema after an absence of 35 years, Morricone has collaborated with director Christian Carion (Une hirondelle a fait le printemps, Joyeux Noel) on an emotional film about the invasion of France by German troops in 1940, and the people of a small town fleeing from the barbaric Nazis.

Ennio Morricone has written a moving, beautiful, deeply melancholic and nostalgic symphonic poem. The music takes us back to the sound of his best epic scores, such as A Time of Destiny, Casualties of War, Il Deserto Dei Tartari or Baaria. Played by the Roma Sinfonietta under the baton of the composer, this is certainly a great milestone and one of the most highly anticipated works of the year.

Track listing:

01. En mai (8:56)
02. L’étau se resserre (3:58)
03. Ils resteront trois (5:05)
04. Traverser la guerre (1:55)
05. Tout laisser (2:51)
06. Ils arrivent (3:39)
07. Respirations (4:07)
08. Tous ensemble (2:38)
09. Et même les animaux sont avec eux (4:37)
10. A la recherche de la paix (6:29)

Great news. By all accounts Ennio back to his best.
in the world of 20 or 25 track CDs, 10 tracks looks more like an old Lp listing, doesnt it?
Is CD identical to the download?

The samples are wonderful, especially "A la recherche de la paix" - just turn the volume on and listen...magnificent!

I suppose if you're not gonna use Philippe Rombi (as you normally do), Ennio Morricone is an okay replacement!! wink

Some nice tracks there, worth listenin to the samples at Quartet.
I like when we get echoes of other scores - hearing Ennios familiar styles is like when an old friend turns up!

I'm here at the message board every day. I seldom post, but I read what other has to say. One thing that is very common is the opinion that it was better in the old days. Many miss the scores of the past. They miss the melodies, the arrangements and the heart and soul in the music. I think that they in many ways have right in their opinions.

Now will Quartet Records release as score that according to the samples do have just those things. It´s music composed from the heart of one exceptionally gifted composer that at least to me goes straight to the heart. And what do we have..? Less then ten replies...

I know that there has been another EN MAI FAIS CE QUI'L TE PLAIT thread but I do think that a release as this should have more replies.

Well Mathias, I'd like to say that no one has the CD yet, so they haven't fully listened to the score to discuss it, but sadly, even when people do finally get the disc, you'll be lucky to read more than five posts actually discussing the music.
Say something stupid or controversial however...

I, for one, am very happy that this score gets a CD release. Nowadays even the name of Morricone doesn't automatically guarantees a release on CD so I am glad Quartet picked up the rights and is going to give us the Maestro's latest music. It seems - at least from the samples - that this movie inspired Morricone to write in his lyrical, emotional style that many of us cherish. Looking forward to the CD!

I hope his score for the Tarantino movie will also be available on CD in a couple of months.

Perhaps it's best to look at it this way; if people are quiet during a dinner, that usually means the food is good.

Yes but the score had a prior release as a digital download. Something tells me a lot of Morricone fans already heard it.

Where is it available? I can only find pre-order links to the download.

You are correct, I assumed this had been released on digital download prior. I suspected the Quartet release to be an overdue physical release, my mistake!

Euhm, waiter. big grin

You are probably right. It hasn´t been released yet. I didn´t mean to criticize. I was only a little surprised that this release didn´t get more response. I´m looking forward to reading your review James. ;-)

Did anyone notice this ? The digital download at itunes and amazon for this release is totally different. Amazon has it the same as Quartet. The sequencing of tracks at Itunes is totally different. What gives ?
