Let's hope it's not a bad sign for next Sunday but Ennio didn't win the French César last night. This award went to Warren Ellis for his score to MUSTANG. It's rather logical since Christian Carion's EN MAI was a big failure at the box office. So still no French César for the Maestro.

Not a surprise at all and not a bad sign for sunday.

I'd like to see this film regardless, however no showings where I live. Really love this score, been on repeat listens for me. That last cue is especially beautiful.

Thomas, in case where the movie would eventually not reach your place, the French DVD and Blu-ray will be available within a couple of days:

Governor, you're of course right. Both nominations have no connection whatsoever and Ennio is still a serious contender for the Oscar tonight. The suspense goes on...

I bagged this CD as part of a recent order I did with Quartet, spurred on by their sale.
As others have said, what truly beautiful music.
Like Correspondence, the first track is lovely but can be a bit repetitive, although at least it's only 9 minutes and not 14 (like the Correspondence cue).
There's a nice diversity to this score, with some slight suspense/sneaking around music and a lovely nostalgia-styled track featuring harmonica/accordion(?).
But from track 7 til track 10, Morricone just batters the hell out of your heart and soul with some of the most gorgeous music to be heard in film today.
There were literally tears in my eyes in work today, while I listened to those last 4 tracks, on my CD Walkman.
With Morricone and Williams still writing film music, we are truly blessed indeed.

Great to read this Kev! I also got EN MAI FAIS CE QUI'L TE PLAIT in the wonderful Quartet Sale, but haven't listened to it yet. As regards Mr. Morricone's score for Correspondence, I absolutely love the first two tracks, I'm not too keen on the rest of it, but boy those first two tracks really hit the spot with me!

Hope you enjoy it Niall.
As one of the reviews say above, it's nothing new under the sun as regards Morricone music, but just like you would buy an album by REM and not want it to sound like Coldplay, that's a major part of the charm.

Very well said Kev! For the multitude of us who love his music and have been following his career and film scores right from the mid 60s, and even more recently, we know (more or less, lol) what to expect, and I personally am happy with that. He really is a great composer, and great man to keep up the pace and high standards that he does.

EN MAIS FAIS CE QU'IL TE PLAIT
Music Composed, Orchestrated and Conducted by Ennio Morricone
Performed by The Roma Sinfonietta
[...]
Ennio Morricone has written a moving, beautiful, deeply melancholic and nostalgic symphonic poem. [...]

Track listing:

01. En mai (8:56)
02. L’étau se resserre (3:58)
03. Ils resteront trois (5:05)
04. Traverser la guerre (1:55)
05. Tout laisser (2:51)
06. Ils arrivent (3:39)
07. Respirations (4:07)
08. Tous ensemble (2:38)
09. Et même les animaux sont avec eux (4:37)
10. A la recherche de la paix (6:29)

[...]

It goes without saying that it's a wonderful work of Morricone, one of many. But what's the problem with the sound quality of the wondrous track 1 "En mai"?
Some small anomalies can be heard at least four times in an interval of 15 seconds:
1st 3:02
2nd 3:13
3rd 3:15
4th 3:17

Unless it's so bad as to ruin the actual listening experience, I don't really hear tiny anomalies on most of my CDs.
And sometimes they are inherent in the recording or the actual room.
I've played this CD countless times and never, ever heard anything to ruin the beautiful time I've had.
I'd say concentrate on the wonderful music and ignore the tiny anomalies.

I think that's a really good advice, Kev, and it's always almost true.
I've written this comment because I believe that these tiny anomalies may not be inherent to the recording or room.
Anyway, I don't want to sound like I'm making a mountain out of a molehill. The music is fantastic and, even with those anomalies, I'm still able to enjoy it.
Thank you for your answer.

You're welcome Andres.
And your comments didn't come out as whining or griping.
In the days of the old LPs things like that used to drive me crazy.
Maybe as you get older you think more glass half full?
Or your hearing is too spent to notice anyway smile
