Geez, it took them long enough.
TV is the proper format for Star Trek.

I am little concerned about them saying this is an exclusive on CBS All Access digital.
I would imagine that this is going to change and they will have to broadcast it.

The exclusive paid streaming thing is a no for me. Pass.

I don't have much discussion to offer, sadly, apart from:
give me The Continuing Adventures Of The Rikers In Space or give me nothing (and keep JJ's cronies's mitts off it).

Th good news is that Robert Orci isn't involved.

The bad news is that Alex Kurtzman is.

These companies are shooting themselves in the foot. Do they really think people can afford to pay for each channel individually? And wait until the subscription prices go way up in a few years.

I'm excited for new Star Trek, but I'm disappointed it's going to be on a streaming service I wouldn't have much use for otherwise.

Wow, that was stupid. I have the pleasure of adding one to my blocklist today.

Kurtzman's involvement is indeed worrying.

The press release is being REALLY cagey about what it's even about, though it is good to know it is not in the JJTrek timeline (although it might be easier to ignore and not pay a monthly fee if it was JJTrek).

I say put Supergirl on the streaming service and broadcast ST over-the-air).

While Kurtzman being involved IS something that makes me really cautious, he is certainly the least of Abrams Army Of The Untalented.

Right now, we should be thankful that the batshit Truther Orci burned so many bridges in Hollywood to remove him from two franchises in one year.

I really wish they had done a 30 minute sitcom pilot like they talked about on one of the Bluray discs.

Well, I'm optimistic. (But then, I kind of am naturally.)

So I've decided to be excited. And yeah, I'll pay for this. I think I can afford it.

Welcome to the board, RR.

Whoever writes the score, I hope they use the iconic Giacchino Theme for the main titles. A new take on the Courage one would be an acceptable alternative.

Agreed. I watched the first Supergirl episode this week - or at least as much as I could stand before turning it off and disabling the series link. Flash had pushed the boundary for me of how much smugness could be fitted into one series, and Supergirl exceeded it in the first half of one episode. It's hard to maintain any tension when all the actors look so flippin' pleased with themselves.

Sorry, off topic rant.

Here's an excellent article from Forbes about the CBS All Access exclusive plan.

The new Supergirl series reminds me of my favorite Robert Heinlein quote:

"You're a very pretty girl, so I don't mind your ignorance."

with lots of coed bathtub-shaving scenes! Do they still have to follow the Hays Code about having at least one foot on the floor?

Can we please have a decent theme for the next series and not a rodeo song? Thanks.

P.S. Whatever happened to the Rikers?

What happened to Wesley? Wasnt he was an Academy dropout, or does his deleted scene in Nemesis count (where apparently it's implied he did graduate)? I'll never knew if I should have sent him a Graduation stargram or not.

I know...biggest dropped ball from the end of the TNG era.

From Wesley Crusher's wikipedia entry:

'Spin-off works

The subsequently released A Time to... novel miniseries and the 2007 novel relaunch of Star Trek: The Next Generation revealed that Crusher had become a full-fledged Traveler. He was wearing a Starfleet uniform in Star Trek: Nemesis because he had mistakenly arrived to Riker and Troi's wedding naked, expecting a Betazoid wedding. Several years later, Crusher enlisted the aid of the Enterprise-E crew in stopping a powerful machine from destroying all organic life in the galaxy.[5]'

Good analysis here.
Is anyone really clamoring to pay money to watch NCIS 24/7? Considering that CBS has less on-demand content than the other Big-Four, maybe they are.

This new ST series would have to be pretty much off-the-charts better than the current Doctor Who for me to pay directly just to watch one show.
I'm more likely to put my money into a VPN service and start pirating my first full run TV series.
But as long as they put this on Blu-Ray, I'll most likely watch it that way.

This will be the third time ST was used to anchor a new network or some such. Maybe the streaming service will last longer than the UPN.
