THURSDAY, NOVEMBER 12

STAR WARS: THE FORCE AWAKENS---JJ Abrams commented on Leia in the sequel, “She’s referred to as General. But … there’s a moment in the movie where a character sort of slips and calls her ‘Princess.’…The stakes are pretty high in the story for her, so there’s not much goofing around where Leia’s concerned, but it felt historic to have her, especially with Harrison, back in scenes together. I can only imagine the baggage that they bring to it...but they’ve been living with it — and living in it — since ’77.”
Also, the sequel's First Order Stormtroopers were indoctrinated to believe Luke Skywalker is the "villain who destroyed the benevolent Empire". Consequently, in the sequel, Luke has gone into hiding to avoid the First Order Stormtroopers.
New photos were released from the sequel.

ALIEN: PARADISE LOST---Ridley Scott said he will direct the three sequels to PROMETHEUS, and he will use the third movie to correct mistakes he made with the original ALIEN, "PROMETHEUS 2 [PARADISE LOST] will start getting shot in February and I've already begun now so I know what the script is. Then there will be another one after that and then maybe we'll back into ALIEN 1, as to why? Who would make such a dreadful thing?"
He added, "I'm trying to keep this for myself. I let the other one [ALIEN] get away from me - I shouldn't have… I'm trying to re-resurrect the beast and let if off the hook for a while because I'm coming back into the back-end of ALIEN 1. I'm gradually getting to ALIEN 1."
Scott will rewrite the PARADISE LOST script with John Logan (SKYFALL). Scott's concentrating on the ALIEN franchise apparently is the reason Neill Blomkamp's sequel was shelved.

DOCTOR STRANGE---Amy Landecker (TRANSPARENT) has joined the cast in an undisclosed role. Landecker is the great-granddaughter of Joseph N. Welch, the attorney who was a hero in the Sen. Joe McCarthy/Army hearings in the 1950s. Welch later appeared as the judge in ANATOMY OF A MURDER which starred Jimmy Stewart, Lee Remick and George C. Scott.

VAN HELSING---the Universal Pictures vampire hunter reboot movie will be written by Jon Spaihts (PROMETHEUS) and Eric Heisserer (FINAL DESTINATION).

SNOWPIERCER---tv series underway based on the 2013 sci fi movie that starred Chris Evans, Ed Harris and John Hurt. Josh Friedman (AVATAR 2) is the writer.

JEM AND THE HOLOGRAMS---the movie has been completely removed from theaters after taking in only $2.1 million in two weeks. Box office analyst Jeff Bock said, "This is unprecedented, and shows just how badly this film flopped. Not only is it the lowest-grossing debut for a studio film this year, but it's the worst all-time - by a considerable margin - for any film released in 2,000-plus theaters."

MY ALL-AMERICAN---sports biomovie underway by Angelo Pizzo (HOOSIERS, RUDY) about University of Texas football player Freddie Steinmark, an underdog who played in the 1969 "Game of the Century" when #1 Texas beat #2 Arkansas in the most-watched program in history at the time. Steinmark was unknowingly suffering from cancer during the game and died two years later. Aaron Eckhart and Finn Wittrock star.

Three sequels to PROMETHEUS?!!!!!! Now I think I'm going to go jump off a bridge! Damn you, Ridley Scott!

And why anyone wants to reboot VAN HELSING is beyond me.

The hacks have taken over.

Three sequels to Prometheus? Well, they couldn't be as stupid or as badly written as that film. I really think they should do their own thing rather than link up to the arse end if Alien. Would be interesting to see what cast it attracts.

I know that based on the amount this movie gets crapped on, I'm in the minority on this, but I really enjoyed Prometheus. More than the original Alien, in fact.

I think he's talking about Prometheus 1, not Alien.

Me too.

As for Scott's mistakes in Prometheus, one of them was getting the casting of Rapace and Theron clearly back to front. He can't correct that... or can he??? wink

The Prometheus thing is likely an option - they're projecting X number of sequels - to keep that door open. If the next one were to flop as badly as the first one should have and Jem did this year, they'd certainly cancel the rest.

Considering Scott's brother did jump off a bridge, maybe you want to re-word that.

Considering Scott is pushing eighty, you have to take the idea that he's directing THREE Prometheus sequels with a grain of salt.

Luke went into hiding to avoid stormtroopers?

I can't tell if that's part of JJ's quote or if that's a quote from an unnamed source?
Seems kinda odd JJ would reveal so much about Luke after all the mystery they've kept up until now.

Out of all this remake and sequel mess, that's actually one I really understand. The Van Helsing character - even from his sole literary outing - could be a force and a brain to be reckoned with. And "Van Helsing - The Disnified Movie" was so craptacular (apart from the score, which was genuinely decent) that I actually really get this and can see a reboot.

None of this though makes me as excited as Ridley Scott potentially tying up Alien. Prometheus was somewhat flawed but nevertheless really rather good....more can only mean better....I hope....

I thought this film was to have mostly practical special effects and no heavy CGI. This looks almost 100% CGI.

Well, when they make a film like this review says:

It's no surprise what happened.

Why does that guy's review remind me of Rob Reiner's to-camera introduction in Spinal Tap?

Another way to look at it: focusing on remaking crappy movies (and getting them right the second time) instead of good ones.

Is Chewie taller, or did Grandpa Solo get shorter?

It still has a British release date, but if Universal cancels it (the way Aloha went straight to VOD over here to avoid a repeat of how badly it did Stateside) I won't be surprised.

SOLIUM:

John Boyega made the comment about the First Order Stormtroopers being raised to hate Luke. The comment about Luke going into hiding was written by the author of the article, "That would explain the character's absence, he's been forced into hiding."
