Good question, though the horror ending wasn't terribly offensive or anything. It sounded like old fashioned horror music rather than 80s horror music. smile But that main title is a lovely gem that deserved rescue, and I'm very curious to know how much more gorgeous music like that is on the rest of the album! I'm glad you liked it too.

1985 At The Movies - Autographed Edition (250 copies)

Available individually for the first time, the Varèse Sarabande CD Club is happy to offer a special autographed edition of 1985 At The Movies, signed by conductor David Newman and producer Robert Townson. Limited to 250 copies!!

Robert Townson should do the same with SPARTACUS. Just give us a one or two CDs edition, just with the complete original soundtrack.

I would gladly order it right away.

1985 at the Movies is a great compilation, as I've said in the last few days somewhere around here. Well worth picking up. Flies by.

FYI, If you want this CD, you can pre-order at Amazon for MUCH less. $13.99.

The MovieMusic Store at www.moviemusic.com has it (unsigned) for $14.99. Order 2 more CDs with that and you get $1.00 shipping which is also a better deal.

So I finally received my order, and the 1985 at the Movies CD is only autographed by David Newman. Wasn't it also supposed to be autographed by Robert Townson? I honestly couldn't care less, I much prefer it with only David Newman's autograph, but I was just curious if I was remembering incorrectly. What did other's receive?

[posted previously in another thread]

My copy of Spies Like Us arrived on 12/12.

I do NOT have the refined ears that some you guys do but I did detect a slight improvement and I swear there were a couple of moments where I could make out the sound of an instrument that I couldn't before (mainly in the string section).

It's not a night and day difference and, to be perfectly honest, if subjected to a blind listening test, I don't know if I'd be able to tell.

This is one movie that has never looked or sounded great. It was released in 1985 yet looks 10 years older. While watching it, there's a noticeable downgrade in quality during the testing scene (I think it's one reel), there's a near-constant hiss on the soundtrack, and it's obvious this isn't in the restoration pipeline at WB. So having said all that, I wonder if this is the best the music can sound, short of a more expensive restoration/remix.

All in all, your mileage may vary, but I'm happy this is available again. The new liner notes by Jim Lochner were appreciated as well.
