Earlier this summer, composer Christophe Beck recorded his score to the Blue Sky/Fox animated film The Peanuts Movie. Directed by Steve Martino and based on the classic comic strip by Charles M. Schulz, the scoring sessions took place at the Newman Scoring Stage at 20th Century Fox, and ScoringSessions.com is delighted to bring our readers photos from the sessions!

Enjoy!

I'm sure he was just following orders, but I hated this score.

I've not heard this yet, but I generally like Beck.
What was so bad about it Shaun?
Is it too mickey-mouse?
I was hoping there would be some nice tinkly thematic stuff. The track titles make it sound promising.

It is very much in the vein as the orchestral cues from Frozen; i.e., delightful.

I enjoy both Frozen and the two Muppets films. If this is more of the same, I'll be all over it.

I also love his Frozen & Muppets stuff, so, keen to hear this one now.

I liked it. It captured the feel of the movie. The VGT tracked music was used appropriately.

Yeah, it's in that vein. To me, it was completly generic. I didn't want David Benoit to do it or anything, I just would have preferred something simpler, like the Guaraldi stuff (or even the music from Race For Your Life, Charlie Brown). This could have been the music for literally any children's movie.

The track "Snow Day" is the best one, IMHO. It's (as Dr. Nigel said) delightful and very Frozen-esque.
But I also agree with Shaun: I found most of it pretty generic. Beck's themes for Charlie (or just "Peanuts" in general?) and Fifi are good themes, and there are a bunch of nice moments, but overall it doesn't thrill me.

The album's last 3 tracks are really enjoyable, interesting arrangements of Vince Guaraldi Trio tracks, but... does anyone know if they appear in the film at all? I had listened to the album before seeing it and I don't remember them showing up anywhere (even in the end credits). I may have missed them, though...

No, those Guaraldi arrangements don't appear in the film.

In this NPR interview:

Beck said they were created specially for the soundtrack CD.

Having more references to Guaraldi's music in the film would have certainly helped.
