Now I readily admit I have a large-ish music collection ... certainly enough to see me through the rest of my days ... but that doesn't stop me buying (the odd pause, maybe ) and I had no intention of moving over to music streaming. But, as it's free for 90 days who am I to say No? So, some three days in to TIDAL (Hi-fi lossless quality) I've been checking out the film music entries as opposed to picking the odd song of my past which I haven't heard for many a year. Okay, my first pick wasn't strictly a film score but as I mostly enjoy Henry Mancini's easy-listening albums I decided to give his 1976 The Cop Show Themes release a try ... so glad I never got around to buying it. And, second choice: I'm so-so with Hans Zimmer, enjoying some of his scores (e.g. The Last Samurai) whilst being rather uninterested in others (e.g. Inception). We're just coming to the end of The Lone Ranger and, again, I'm glad I haven't bought this. Query, not having seen the film ... is it a Western? I'm sure there's something psychological here ... if I haven't consciously decided to buy something then surely my feelings are already tainted? Conversely, when I've bought something I'm telling myself that I want to like the score/album so as not to have wasted my money. Over the next few weeks hopefully I will find the odd album on this streaming service which will make me reach for my credit card. At the moment I do question whether this type of music access is good for the music though I do recognise that for those consumers who don't want to keep their own music library this service is a way of accessing music. Having put Spectre on my Christmas list I'm dubious about selecting it from this TIDAL service - I don't want to cloud my judgement should my stated logic be credible! Anyone using TIDAL ... any thoughts about its service? The sound quality is certainly very good ... I compared the Main Title from The Ipcress File and must say that I'd struggle to identify the source (TIDAL or my NAS) in a blind test. Mitch

Searching on the name: Ron Goodwin I came across his score, until now unknown to me, to The Day of the Triffids (1963) so thought it was worth a play ... and enjoyable, if short, it was! The cover art looked ... well .. fake and carried the text Ron Goodwin and his Orchestra - OST Archive AMR 4208. A bit of research leads me to believe that it is the re-recording by the Radio Symphony Orchestra of Slovakia, conducted by Kathleen Mayne as released on the 2006 album Monstrous Movie Music MMM-1954 .. the track titles and timings agree (subject to some titles being aggregated). One exception: the final track, after Triffid Attack / End of The Triffids comes Endtitles 02'35" which, sounding more archival than the score then ended, has me wondering if this was sourced from the film's OST. Anyone have any knowledge of this Archive label? Oh, and as I've received Spectre as a birthday present I don't have to wait or try the streamed version. I think RG's score is rather more interesting ... but both have had only one play so far. Mitch
