So that when annoying people submit every single track title with [From "The Good Dinosaur" Score] appended to it it doesn't take forever to undo their awfulness?

You can't do it in iTunes, but you can get a tag editor to do it.

This is an iTunes basic. Go to Edit>Preferences>Options and uncheck the option "Automatically retrieve CD track names from the internet".

The downside is that you'll have to enter track titles manually, but believe me that's for the best. Everyone wants their metadata done a little differently, it seems.

In an example like the one you described, simply select all the tracks from that playlist/album, "get info" to open the tag editor, then change the information in the album field. Since that is the only item changed and automatically checked, it will edit all files selected. Everything else will remain the way it was.

Naturally, you wouldn't want to change the name/title of all files to the same title.

For Mac users, there is also Doug's AppleScripts for iTunes. Doug wrote a script for just about everything: http://dougscripts.com/itunes/index.php

For example, there are AppleScripts to unscramble files where all tag data is crammed into the name of the file.

Windows users will have to hunt down a similar archive for the Windows version of iTunes.

Let me endorse this site, too. These scripts are very useful.

There is no easy windows equivalent if dougs scripts. Windows version of itunes lets you edit tags. There is a right click option edit id3 tags.
