Our third release for Black Friday don't come any "bigger" than this...

GIANT: LIMITED EDITION (2-CD SET) LLLCD 1333
Music by Dimitri Tiomkin
Limited Edition of 3000 Units
RETAIL PRICE: $24.98

La-La Land Records, Warner Bros. and Universal Music Special Markets proudly present the expanded release of renowned composer Dimitri Tiomkin’s (HIGH NOON, RIO BRAVO, THE FALL OF THE ROMAN EMPIRE) original motion picture score to the 1956 dramatic saga GIANT, starring Elizabeth Taylor, Rock Hudson and James Dean, and directed by George Stevens. Tiomkin matches the epic dramatic reach of this classic tale with an equally epic masterwork that is robust, lyrical, brooding and soulful. Produced, edited and assembled by Neil S. Bulk and mastered by Doug Schwartz from mono studio vault elements, with additional engineering by Mike Matessino, this deluxe 2-CD set is greatly expanded beyond the original soundtrack album presentation, running over 2 hours and 25 minutes. While the complete film version of the score no longer exists, producer Bulk painstakingly augmented surviving film takes with alternates cues and additional materials (recovered and transferred specifically for this release) to create this wonderful assembly. Bonus tracks include album tracks and further alternate cues. Exclusive, in-depth liner notes by writer Frank K. DeWald and appropriately epic art direction by Jim Titus complement this historic presentation of a truly great work from one of filmdom’s most legendary composers. This is a limited edition run of 3000 Units.

Hopefully, the mastering won't be on the loud side...

Many, many thanks La La Land...

The sales figures on this classic score should boost Lalaland's confidence on more golden age scores. I have the feeling it will. Thanks Lalaland.

Not familiar with this score at all, but I do like other Tiomkin scores so, while not a blind buy, I will be checking out the samples for this one.

The movie is quite good and the score as well. I am surprised there is not more excitement for this. I've been waiting for a proper release of this since I saw the movie. (I know not as long as many here have been waiting).

The movie is quite good and the score as well.

I always felt that James Dean's method acting was at odds with the more traditional Hollywood style of the main stars. The movie largely succeeds in spite of this.

This looks wonderful.

Wondering about some specific tracks. Supposedly, Warners had a version of the Main Title where the chorus SANG the giant Theme.

the early Young love scene - the record was one version but the film version had a different ending.

Other unmentionable sources, had a finale for Act One
and Intermission Music.. Did Warners not have these?

Was wondering about this also.

Also, song :

Love Theme (There's Never Been Anyone Else But You) , which is given music and lyric credit but, to my knowledge, not heard in final film.

This one was a long time coming. Can't wait to hear it!

Wow! There's more music here than I expected. What a great release! This is a massive and colorful score, a Tiomkin favorite of mine. You can't go wrong with a (modern) Tiomkin western.

I first bought the (poor sound quality) LP back in 1965! That's all I ever had. Now, 50 years later,
I'll get the proper score presentation I always wanted. Wonderful!

Thanks MV and LLL! smile

I'm awake Angelillo. smile I was out of town.

This is an EPIC score. If you are a member who is afraid of any music composed before 1995, at least go into the site and listen to the samples. It is chock full to brimming over with varied and rich themes.
