Music Box Records is pleased to reissue the expanded CD of Lolita (1997), Ennio Morricone’s classic score for Adrian Lyne’s controversial adaptation of the Vladmir Nabokov novel. Starring Jeremy Irons, Melanie Griffith, Frank Langella and Dominique Swain, this version had to contend with the shadow of the earlier adaptation made by Stanley Kubrick.
In 2013, Music Box Records released this expanded edition which was quickly sold out in less than two months.

Nabokov’s novel tells the tale of Humbert Humbert, a university professor who falls in love with the daughter of his landlady. His love for the teen-aged nymphette Lolita knows no boundaries so he marries his shrewish mother in order to be close to the girl. Before his new wife could oust him as a pervert, Humbert gets widowed and must take of Lolita – a sweet burden he happily carries across the country. Their cross-country adventure is followed by the mysterious Clare Quilty who has his own plans for Lolita...

For Lolita, Ennio Morricone contributed one of his most memorable and melodramatic scores that work wonderfully alongside Lyne’s slow-motion images filled with erotic tension. As the composer himself described the project: "With my music, I only had to follow on a high level the director's intentions to make Lolita a story of sincere and reciprocal love, even within the limits of the purity and malicious naiveté of its young subject."

Mastered by Claudio Fuiano and Daniel Winkler, this new reissue by Music Box Records with a brand new artwork expands upon the original Milan Records soundtracks by omitting the period songs and adding more music by the Maestro. Highlights include different variations of the main theme and the "Requiescant" theme which features the guest performance of the Coro di Voci Bianche dell'Arcum children's choir.

Brilliant! Thank you so much! I missed it first time round, and was just toying with buying it on ebay - for a price more than it's just cost me to buy the re-issue AND Reindeer Games together with postage.

This is the most welcomed issue for those who missed the first edition like me. Thanks Music Box!

I've been avoiding this score for a long time, because I've always been repulsed by the bad tone of the film... But yesterday I decided to watch the whole film and at the same time get acquainted with the score in the context of the film itself. As expected, the film evoked very contradictory feelings and emotions, but Morricone's melancholic music was very much liked. The main theme is very deep, tender and full of tragedy. All this is beautifully combined in the hands of the talented composer Ennio Morricone.
When I listened to the score (on youtube), I swear, I got the feeling that it was painfully familiar ... I immediately remembered another film by Adrian Lyne "9 1/2 Weeks", which also used a sad piano theme of love (Jack Nitzsche).
Since I don't have a CD (given its current discogs price, it will be hard to buy!!), I would like to know if the booklet mentioned whether Morricone was the only candidate...or not? (Any info please).
In 1997, when Jack was not doing film scoring, it seemed very unlikely that he would work with Lyne again. I would be very interested in what Nitzsche could compose...
I noticed an interesting fact, starting with he films 'Foxes' (1980) and through 'Unfaithful' (2002) - in all films, the piano is an important basis for the scores.
