Here is a place to talk about the Twin Peaks Archive, all 212 tracks, all nine hours and 47 minutes.

I recently downloaded this for the bargain price of $9.90.

As I begin to absorb this, I plan to post my picks for some of the best tracks.

You are invited to do likewise.

For those who have this, what are your thoughts?

My thoughts are that I apparently paid too much for it wink

I think it is a great resource to have, and there are a lot of tracks that were true holy grails for me. There were also a lot of alternates (alternate takes or slightly different instrumentation) that, TBH, I didn't really need to have, but I'm happy that they are available for people who dig all of that. It's a little daunting all-around to listen to, so I made a playlist of highlights for myself.

I'm a $9.90er, too! Patience really paid off big time on this one!

It's a little daunting all-around to listen to

You want daunting? Try using this resource to combine your TWIN PEAKS, TWIN PEAKS: Season Two Music and More, and TWIN PEAKS: FIRE WALK WITH ME soundtracks along with this archive download into one massive chronologically sequenced playlist (which is exactly what I did, brutal as the process was!):

And for anyone who's interested in where you can find this incredible deal (a value of approx. five cents per track), it's here:

Just curious, since the full archive runs for almost 10 hours, how long was the playlist you assembled?

I loaded the whole thing in a playlist and am starting by eliminating the tracks I know I will not want.

I can't tell you how long without cracking out my iTunes laptop, but I narrowed it down to maybe 1/4 the amount of tracks. I removed anything that duplicates album tracks (i.e. "clean" versions, instrumental versions of songs, etc). I removed almost all instrument variations or take variations of other previously released tracks, unless they were VERY significantly different. I did not keep multiples of the same track (i.e. I kept the film version of Deer Forest Meadow but not the original). I don't think I kept any of the source music (RR jukebox music, Great Northern music, Miss Twin Peaks music) with the exception of the full "I'm Hurt Bad."

So my final playlist probably ends up at something like 3 hours - still an unwieldy amount of music, but with more variety than listening to it through.

I still have the other stuff, and it'll shuffle through my regular random shuffle, but if I want a condensed version of the TP archive, that's how I go.

I too found the archive a bit daunting in volume and difficult to place what take and what theme goes where. So using the site Filmmaker mentioned

http://twinpeakssoundtrackdesign.blogspot.be/p/chronologicalseries-order-guide.html

I made the following playlist for season 1:

1. Twin Peaks Theme (instrumental) 5:07
2. Laura Palmer's Theme (instrumental) 4:52
3. Audrey's Dance (Clean Fast) 3:40
4. Half Speed Orchestra 1 (Stair Music-Danger Theme) 2:36
5. Dance of the Dream Man (original) 3:38
6. Love Theme (Solo Rhodes) 3:31
7. Audrey's Dance (Percussion And Clarinets) 5:20
8. Freshly Squeezed (Fast Cool Jazz Version) 3:42
9. Laura Palmer's Theme (Ghost Version) 1:49
10. Half Speed 5 (Leo's Theme) 3:00
11. Americana 0:52
12. Sneaky Audrey (Audrey's Investigation) 1:53
13. Laura Palmer's Theme (Piano A) TK3 1:13
14. Laura Palmer's Theme (Dark Synth) 2:15
15. The Bookhouse Boys (Solo Guitar) 1:10
16. Sneaky Audrey 1:29
17. Hank's Theme 1:01
18. Love Theme From Twin Peaks 5:04
19. Into The Night 4:45
20. Laura Palmer's Theme (Clarinet Bridge) 0:22
21. Laura Palmer's Theme (Solo Piano) 4:13
22. Laura Palmer's Theme (Letter From Harold) 1:37

I tried to include all the highlights and not have it be too repetitive (different takes of the same theme following closely). Some tracks are labeled the same but are completely different sounding. I also wanted each character's presence be part of the musical flow.

I still need to finish the one for season 2. smile

Where did you download it for $9.90?

Link is mentioned above, it's a great price for lossless:

Thanks for the link, but it says "Apple lossless"; what does this mean, practically speaking, please?

I see Windows Media Player cannot play this format, but Media Player Classic Home Cinema can, so I could listen to the files on my PC laptop.

What about burning a CD, though?
iWisoft's (free) Video Converter does not list this, so I won't be able to convert it to wav.

Apple services are designed to be used exclusively on Apple products (that's why I loathe them). If you load the tracks into iTunes, the program's interface allows you to burn them to a CD, in either the original lossless format or by converting them to mp3s first, your choice.

Thank you for the explanation, Filmmaker!
I hate those very specific releases too, which sometimes make it impossible to get something.

I'll have to download and install iTunes and see what can be done; I suppose it should allow you to burn wav files along with ALAC ones, to mix tracks from various sources.

It's awesome! I'm tempted to to get this for the few tracks I seemed to have missed.

So, I know part of the appeal of TWIN PEAKS's music is the incorporation of creepy, disorienting atonal and distortion effects, but I need some help making sure I'm hearing one of them by intentional design or if I'm encountering a playback glitch. Can anyone who owns this Archive listen to the track "Sneaky Audrey (Solo)" from 32 seconds - 44 seconds and let me know if they hear a loud overlay of the music of what sounds like thick fingernails furiously scratching on wood?

Well, a year later, and I've finally made it through the whole thing.

I created one giant playlist and slowly went through it alphabetically.

I look forward to listening on shuffle, and picking out key tracks.

The one that has made the biggest impression on me is a 9-minute track called "Trail Mix."

I just downloaded the archive yesterday. So far I've put together an expanded Fire Walk With Me playlist. This weekend I'll tackle the rest of it...!
