Anyone who loves Morricone's more "melodic"side should check out this rare CD.
IMHO 16 tracks of pure musical Genius !

Thanks for posting this Leo and a pity this is OOP. Beautiful music should always be readily available!

I've been hoping for a reissue of this one for ages, perhaps expanded? Fingers crossed!

Most Morriconians would welcome that, as this CD is now very difficult to find.

Expanded reissue would be great. Btw, anyone know what is happening with the Intermezzo/GDM 2fers? Seems they moved their warehouse or something. In any case, so many of the maestro's works are OOP and that's a great shame!

I haven´t heard the whole score but this piece, which I have on some collection cd, is a little too cheesy(I don´t know if it´s the correct word) for my taste.

Talking about OOP scores I would love a reissue (expanded if there is more music) of his really sad and beautiful score for Gli Occhiali d'oro.
I´m a little surprised that this score isn´t mentioned more often.

This thread gave me the opportunity to listen again to PIAZZA DI SPAGNA and I must say that this score has the ability to make me feel happy. It's pure delight throughout. I remember Micke wrote a detailed review of it in MSV at the time when it was broadcast and if I'm not mistaken, there is enough stuff to fill a double CD, with many variations of the themes included on the CD. However, I doubt that EM would ever give his blessing to such a release.
There is one track I'm especially crazy about, Medio - alta borghesia. This catchy tune is exposed by the horns, backed up by string pizzicatti and then by these "string turns" Ennio injected into various other soundtracks of his (the main theme from MARCO POLO, etc). I especially like the way this sinuous melody is built and develops. A pity it stops at 3'05 for I wish it would last longer! Anyway, the entire CD is absolutely infectious, having a lot to offer: Edda's voice here and there, that superb jazzy flute, the slow track inspired by Lei se ne more from ANCHE SE VOLESSI LAVORARE, CHE FACCIO?, etc.

Laurent, I absolutely agree with you, it's one of the very few CD's that I never skip any tracks on.
My particular favourite is track 6 "Seconda borghesia" with the ominous sounding "Bacharach-style"
Flugelhorn.......courtesy of the great Oscar Valdambrini presumably ?
The whole album is a delight from start to finish !

Except, of course, that this track is not from this score ... it predates this 1993 TV series' score by nearly two decades, being taken from the score to the 1974 film La Cugina (The Cousin) - tr.4 De Copalamo

As for the score, I find it a little too easy-listening ... enjoyable certainly but there are far more enjoyable works from the Maestro.

Mitch, thank you for the info, I did not know that.....appreciate it.
I wonder how many other tracks on this album were taken from other Morricone scores ?

Using the following as my source for the information: that would appear to be the only re-used track. Many Morricone CD releases include re-used tracks.

See: http://www.chimai.com/index.cfm?module=MUS&mode=ALB&id=92 (though I note that this site states 1991 rather than 1993 (IMDb) for this TV series).

Thank you for the additional info, it would appear "Seconda Borghesia" to be the only re-used track.
The CD booklet also states 1991 as the date......the CD was issued in 1995.

Leo.

MusicMad, by rating PIAZZA DI SPAGNA high as we did, we're of course talking of light scores and it's obvious we can't compare that one with say IL DESERTO DEI TARTARI or THE MISSION. As for LA CUGINA, morriconians know from scratch that indeed one track on the CD was borrowed from it but it doesn't change the fact Morricone composed the whole score for PIAZZA. It's a bit like THE HATEFUL 8 to some extent, where pre-existing music was inserted in the final movie but where most of the score is absolutely new.
The only flaw I would personally single out in PIAZZA is the ugly and "cheap" sound of the synth in some tracks, like in IL BARONE and the more recent LA CORRISPONDENZA. Save for a few occasions like L'UMANOIDE or THE THING, programming has never been Morricone's asset. He i.m.h.o. felt better at ease in the early 70's with the Sinket and other instruments of that kind in the giallo genre, the thrillers or political movies than he did with the later synths to come.

Nice to see this thread, 10 years ago i first time suddenly (it was broadcast on TV) seen this TV series and fascinated by score, especially main titles... Of course i recorded this series at the time and then i found rare CD and enjoyed all the 16 brilliant tracks, however a lot of tracks and versions (alternate) remains unreleased, that's why 6 years ago i've cut all of UNRELEASED tracks and alternate versions....

I wrote that a lot of tracks i could identify (re-used, pre-existing) and some of them were not identifiyed yet, we worked with Didier Thunus and Patrick Bouster and of course Micke send me his great article of MSV too which i still keep , this series also re-used LE VENT LE CRI (5 min version), MONEY (which is only released on GOLD EDITION and then later MONEY GDM CD as track 1), Un Amico, and many others BUT the only DE COPALAMO re-used too much throughout all the 5 episodes and this is probably reason that they put this theme and renamed on that Screen trax CD.

Very often (for 6-7 years) we spoken to Fuiano about this score and thankfully he always said that Mastertapes not are lost and he does have them and someday will make miracle.

If someone interested, long time ago i've posted all the unreleased music's Fragments of this series at Facebook....

What a shame we have not had a reissue, it's a lovely score. I would buy a new reissue instantly.

me too!

don't worry, just a question of time!

mastertapes aren't lost, someday Fuiano will make this Expanded stuff, maybe very soon, we talked 6 years ago and i still wait for that gem.

Un Amico from Revolver
le Vent Le Cri from Le Professionnel
Money
La Citta (suspense) from Le Due Stagione Della Vita
Nebulosa Prima (from Le Secret)
Musica Da Sera from Gli Intoccabili
De Copalamo too, which selected for this CD under Seconda Borghesia title

Vladimir Cosma used in 2001 for Le Placard old theme from Courage Fuyons as Main title of Le Placard.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VL8tpcFO6tc
This piece is written in 1977

so, PIAZZA DI SPAGNA has a lot of EXTRA TRACKS! I love them.

CD marks that old 1995 Point CD was supervised by EM himself, i hope next CD will include all stuff.
This score deserves 2 complete CD
