With Mark Snow and the gang returning to the all-new 6 episode 'season 10' of The X-Files, is there any word yet of a CD release of this? I know Lalaland has been all over the series, so I'm guessing they'd be the ones to release it.

No, but this new behind the scenes special contains what sounds to my ear like new Mark Snow music. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UgRUzEdPfHA

(Warning: some mild spoilers about upcoming episodes)

I wonder if music from the miniseries might be part of the X-Files volume 3 set.

Chris.

You think so? Just sounds like typical, off-the-shelf stock advert music to me. Lots of basic Inception BWAMS (which I hope to hell Snow would never employ).

I just finished watching the third episode, "Mulder & Scully Meet the Were-Monster".

What a vast improvement. It's had some shaky moments, but overall just well done.

The first episode was so bad I won't ever watch it again, the second episode was better but no great shakes. The first one had no score I'd want to hear outside of it. The second had a little.

Anyway, since I just finished it minutes ago, I thought I'd point out the nice cues while I remember them:

  • The action piece at the truck stop when they chase the monster.
  • The plucky piece as Mulder walks in the secret motel cooridoors.
  • And the cue that ends the episode, which is good old fashioned lighter X-Files scoring (almost completely SFX free).

Special note: Mulder's iPhone ringtone is the X-Files theme.

If you couldn't find it in an internet search, it's because Hulu typed out the ampersand:
    http://www.hulu.com/watch/899673

It may be blocked in other countries, so I can't gurantee it will work. At the moment it's free, but I suspect after a while it will become Hulu Plus material.

How many separate threads are we gonna have to discuss this show? I know it's typical that no one cares around here even if there are half a dozen topics created every day to discuss the same subject, but after a while it just seems like random pandemonium around here instead of an actual discussion forum, with five people shouting the same stuff at different parts of the room and no one actually listening to each other. At other forums I've seen, the moderators actually moderate this stuff and combine the threads discussing the same subject, change the topic names if necessary and lock newly created topics that already have an on-going thread, but no one seems to care around here.

From what I can tell (besides a PR post about a Mark Snow interview), this is the only thread in General Discussion to discuss Snow's score to the new X-Files series.

There is also one thread on the "other side"/non-film-score discussion to discuss the new show itself, independent of the score.

    I don't think that's particularly chaotic.

Doing a search for "X-Files" topics on the forum (seemingly a rogue concept), I find four separate threads (unless I missed some) discussing the X-Files revival and Snow's score in it in General Discussion. The first is "The X-Files Returns!" from March 2015, when the new season was announced. It gathered 11 posts. Next one is "Mark Snow and "The X-Files - Season 10" (2016)...?" from August 2015, which gathered 5 posts. Next one is this thread, which had gathered 4 posts on December 29, until now.

The most recent thread was the "Interview: Mark Snow RETURN OF THE X-FILES" thread started on January 24, and being the most recent around the show launch, it's gathered 17 posts so far, and so has the first actual reviews and discussions about the shows and the score, and seemed to be gathering steam. But now we're back to this skeleton thread from December?

It's sad to say, but "Mulder & Scully Meet the Were-Monster" turned out to be the only one of the six episodes that had score worth hearing apart from the episode.

Right now, as it sits, they ended it on a cliff hanger. But I have to say after all these episodes (excluding "Mulder & Scully Meet the Were-Monster"), I wouldn't be interested in seeing any more new episodes. The political agendas, the bad writing, having to muddle through episodes, even some fan wankery, has soured me. For me, Carter has screwed the pooch.

Looking back at this, the second X-files movie, the failed spin-off "The Lone Gunmen", I wish instead we had gotten a "MillenniuM" movie years ago.

I wouldn't be so quick to judge or dismiss his work on these six episodes.

I know that the dubs were far from Perfect and the music was put in a very low level.

I suspect that when a soundtrack album is issued, it will show of his work here in a vastly better light.

I loved the whole run - John Kenneth Muir, by the way, wrote fantastic and insightful reviews on them on his blog.

Will a soundtrack album be released?

I thought the best score this season was in the finale, but I wouldn't be at all surprised if Ford was right about the show's mix making the score seem less interesting than it really is. Looking forward to the inevitable release!

I remember seeing an article with Mark where he specifically mentions having to ask for the score volume to be raised at several key spots in the premiere. Seems to be a common theme all through this season.

Giving this thread a bump since the blu-ray of Season 10 was just released today, and I'm about to go binge watch the entire thing again big grin

Fingers still crossed for more X-Files music!

I would certainly think if a soundtrack were forthcoming, LLL would be the label of choice for Snow.

assuming all this talk is miniseries only. here's hoping volume 3 is more or less a done deal despite the fox shake up.

Volume 3 is just about done. It's looking like Sept or Oct. We have such a massive backlog of titles that were supposed to be out Jan to June 2016 that everything is being pushed back and back and back. I have given up on any schedule for the sake of sanity and am currently "going with the flow."

(The flow sucks. I'll take roaring rapids any day)

The mini series is a different animal -- a new release that falls under different guidelines for approvals an such.

Hopefully things will come together this summer so we can start releasing some great new Fox TV shows.
