According to Film Music Reporter and Hans-Zimmer.com:

Hans Zimmer is reteaming with Christopher Nolan on the director’s upcoming World War II action thriller Dunkirk. According to Hans-Zimmer.com, the composer has already started working on the film. The project marks Zimmer’s sixth collaboration with Nolan following The Dark Knight trilogy, Inception and Interstellar. Dunkirk is set during the legendary evacuation of the northern French city during WWII. Tom Hardy, Mark Rylance and Kenneth Branagh are reportedly in talks to star in the movie. Nolan is also producing the project with his producing partner Emma Thomas (Man of Steel, The Prestige). Dunkirk is set to shoot later this year at many of the real locations of the true-life events and will be released on July 21, 2017 by Warner Bros. Pictures.

No big surprise, but I'm looking forward to this one!

So do I. Zimmer's work for Nolan has been nothing less than... stellar.

Although at first hand, this might seem the most predictable project for the composer. You can already hear the anthems over epic battlegrounds and long string notes over constipated faces.

Then again, it all may surprise us. And once in a while, there's nothing wrong with obviousness.

Source is legit.
Zimmer has scored most of Nolan's films.

So yeah, I think you can bet your sad ass that this isn't an early April's Fool joke.

The footage itself looks gorgeous, but the trailer itself uses every cliché in the modern trailer handbook, and that generic noise over it (would be a bit generous to call it music) just doesn't fit at all.

Although I've found Zimmer's work for Nolan to be generally strong, I kind of wish he'd gone with a different composer for this. I can just imagine what Howard Shore would do with that footage, and it would be a thing of beauty.

I think we all can assume this is gonna sound just like Journey to the Line...

It wasn't until I heard all the pieces in rapid succession at the Zimmer concert that I realised that "Chevaliers de Sangreal" from The Da Vinci Code and "Time" from Inception are both basically "Journey To The Line" redux.

Anybody get a chance to see the seven minutes of preview of this film before Rogue One or Skull Island in Imax and if so what was the score like?

It's really about 5.5 minutes. Saw it in front of Rogue One at a proper IMAX theater. It featured the ticking from the teaser/announcement trailer.

I actually really like Zimmer's Nolan scores, as background while playing games. They aren't my favorite relaxing background music for reading a book or researching but they fit great while playing The Witcher 3, which has a boring score by default.

Can't wait to hear Zimmer's score, which is sure to be boldly symphonic, and rife with a myriad of indelibly memorable themes and lush, intricate orchestrations.

I reckon it is destined to take its place among other classic WW II epic scores, like Battle of Neretva, Patton and Empire of the Sun.

To take the wind away from that silly little post above, yes, I do think Zimmer can produce something unique here. We all lambast him for ripping off Journey to the Line endlessly, but he composed that for a director with very specific tastes on music. Now, Nolan will be tough so this will not sound like a Jarre fartfest or a Williams symphony, but I can see it having an imaginative new view on how to score war. After all, the idea of an organ-dominated, pseudo-Glass score for a Scifi film makes perfect sense now after Hans did it.

Just imagine what a truly talented composer like John Scott could supply to this film.

Don't forget that Nolan forced Zimmer to work alone on Interstellar!

Oh, I agree. I just don't see his sound fitting a Nolan pic in any shape or form.
