I don't have a lot of Morricone scores in my lot. The one that stands out for me is A Time of Destiny. I love the recurring theme and the entire score. I also have The Mission (now words needed) and The Legend of 1900 - also wonderful.

Can anyone recommend anything of his along the lines of A Time of Destiny? Looking to try some more of his music.

Once Upon A Time In America, Cinema Paradiso, and Malena are 3 you would really enjoy. A huge menu of foreign titles too, but that's a good start.

Haven't heard A TIME OF DESTINY, but I recommend THE UNTOUCHABLES and WHITE DOG.

Edw, the three movie scores that blue 15 listed are perfectly in synch with the ones you mentioned. Those are the ones I too would suggest. Another one already mentioned that has a grand theme is The Untouchables. Often The Untouchables and Once Upon A Time in America play on TV, so you could hear the scores before making a purchase. Another score with a grand theme that often plays on TV is Mission To Mars.

There have been other threads with such questions but trouble is when you ask everyone you get hundreds of passionate suggestions.
I would recommend going through henry's (Morricone's) series on important morricone styles, where he talks about the films and scores and provides youtube links. Equally spend a while checking out the recommendations you get here on youtube - there is so much there. Or itunes. And gives you a steer before you make any blind purchase cds.

Trust me edw, like we said before, , once you start baby, theyre like pokemon - gotta get em all!! Ha ha.

Congratulations! :-) You have a lot of great, beautiful music to explore. You seem to have a taste rather similar to my own.

Here are some suggestions that I think you will like a lot:

La Califfa
La Tenda Rossa (The Red Tent)
Baaria
En Mai Fais Ce Qu´il Te Plait
Guns For San Sebastian
Marco Polo

I have more scores by Morricone than any other composer - at least 100 - and none of what I consider to be his best scores have been mentioned yet.

Yo-Yo Ma Plays Morricone is a wonderful compilation of Morricone themes that will go right along with A Time of Destiny, especially if you enjoy music for cello and orchestra (arranged and conducted by the maestro). Here are a couple of samples:

Theme from Moses

Nocturne

Sound advice and exactly what I am about to do. BTW, your Pokemon comparison won you a few more points with younger firecracker. smile

In fairness mathias has listed some fabulous scores there, all with typical powerful ennio themes.

Gratifying to know halfway round the world my claptrap made an american girl amused! Ha ha. We aim to please.
Like many before you, although it looks daunting and unknown, You are on the edge of the largest precipice in film music collecting. Once to go over the edge its a beautiful exhilerating journey... And if firecracker takes the journey with you...you will both need one thing....

I have over 400 Ennio scores, I would say the dollars trilogy is his best works, followed by these.
2 Mules for Sister Sara
Once Upon a Time in the West
Navajo Joe
Massacre of Rome
Bloodline
Red Sonja
Orca killer Whale
Cop killer
Cat o Nine Tails
Le Streghe
There is also a Ennio box set, called sound dimensions that has 6 cd's, the music consists of, hard to find TV music, library cue's.
