The nominees are:

BRIDGE OF SPIES Thomas Newman
THE HATEFUL EIGHT Ennio Morricone
THE REVENANT Ryuichi Sakamoto, Carsten Nicolai
SICARIO Jóhann Jóhannsson
STAR WARS: THE FORCE AWAKENS John Williams

Change "The Revenant" with "Inside Out" and I think we have our Academy Awards nominees!

I think Carol has a better chance than Sicario

I just watched SICARIO again- came out on blu-ay this week with bonus section on THE SCORE with Johann Johannsson and Denis Villeneuve that is incredible.

SICARIO and the Score blow all this other shit out of the water- except maybe The Revenant which is coming out today. I know I'm going to love the score

SICARIO must win - the music is the film is the music.

"Bridge of Spies"? Don't understand this nomination.
I hope Sicario wins. Amazing score.

Pretty good set of nominees, though I'm sorry Doyle's great score for "Cinderella" wasn't recognized.

Based on this, I think Desplat's "Danish Girl" may miss out on the Oscar. Also, I think I was wrong about Morricone (thinking before his music from other films being included in "Hateful Eight" might affect his chances); looks like he's almost a sure bet for next week.

The sure things (for AMPAS noms):

Star Wars: The Force Awakens
The Hateful Eight
Bridge of Spies

Contenders for slots 4,5:

Carol
Sicario (predicted)
Steve Jobs (holding out hope for Daniel Pemberton, but predict near miss)
Inside Out (another near miss?)
The Danish Girl (ditto above)
Spotlight
Cinderella (predicted - friends in the business seem to dig it, and for good reason)
The Martian
Mad Max: Fury Road

Think it's a safe assumption that the noms will be drawn from the "Aforementioned 12."

Perfectly understand the nomination for 'Bridge of Spies', 'Sicario' not so much. Great movie, average score. Liked his score for 'The Theory of Everything' much more. But that's just me.

Carter Burwell's "Carol" missing the nomination for BAFTA is quite... odd.

I think the guy is gonna miss the AMPAS nomination as well as a result because lately BAFTA and AMPAS score category go the same way. Very surprised to see Johann Johannsson taking advantage on this with "Sicario" as I thought the film was dead (in awards consideration) but apparently the guilds liked it.

John Williams, Ennio Morricone and Michael Giacchino works are absolutely inside, don't bet against. The thing Thomas Newman needed to get the slot was this BAFTA nomination. When he was nominated for "Skyfall" and "Saving mr. Banks" he also got to the Academy Awards.

Yes, very strange that Carol scored all of those BAFTA noms but not one for score, especially since many critics have singled out Burwell's contribution (to Carol).

As I wrote in an earlier post, Williams, Morricone and Newman are pretty much locks for AMPAS, with about ten other scores vying for the remaining nom spots (nods).

Still think it'll be Sicario and Cinderella, though noms for Carol, The Danish Girl or Inside Out wouldn't surprise me.

Also sad to see Carol not on the list as that was my favorite. 2nd favorite was Bridge Of Spies. So much great music.

Anyone else's credit getting clapped in cinemas other than Ennio's?
Might be a marker.

And the winner is...

...Ennio Morricone for The Hateful Eight!

This also gives him a 100% success rate this particular award, six wins out of six nominations!

Congrats! Juanki, at this very moment he's in Dublin conducting.

*edited to add: someone tweeted this:

"My man Ennio Morricone apologises for being unable to pick up his Bafta. He's here in Dublin. I'm told they announced it on stage to roars."

Thank you folks! Ennio needs to go to the Oscar this time. The moment will be even bigger than when he got the Honorary Award.

Awards received earlier at the end of the show, they read out a clip of his speech.

"...iam sorry i am unable to be there to collect this award as i am conducting a concert in Dublin, including music from the hateful 8..."

Sadly though it seems to have been won by a bloke called "En ee yo morry cone"
