Whether you loved or hated his work, he was a pioneer and mercurial talent who was as often the generator of trends as their prophet.

A good human being, who covered the course. His lyrics were often paradoxical, he flirted with chaos writing, he's now no doubt where the paradoxes are all resolved:

It was a bit of a shock to hear of his death this morning. While Bowie's music was never my 'cup of tea', his music was on the radio in the background and he appeared in a few films I enjoyed too, so it was like he was always around somewhere in my life. A genuine era of music has ended. RIP David.

Another rich junky die. The man was part of the junky Seventies movement, along with The Rolling Stones and many others.
He exposed his organism to a killer of anti-body.

Yeah, he certainly abused his body in the 70s which must have taken a toll. A heavy smoker all his life too. However, a true chameleon, a champion of evolvement, a lot of charisma, and an undoubted talent, superb performer, exceptional song writer, decent singer with a distinctive voice, capable actor and a passable artist too. Over his decades, probably one of the most important pop stars of all time.

The junky Seventies movement was so intense that The Rolling Stones had to replace their blood.
If you want to see how this movement underwent, watch Jerry Schatzberg's "Panic in Needle Park" (1971).
How can a society worship such people destroying themselves like nihilists?
These so-called "artists" abuse of industrial products (pills, powder) that kill the balance of their organism and their gut flora. Bowie suffered the consequences of a degenerate lifetime.

Nihil Nisi Bonum.

This moralising is really not appropriate. The fellow didn't take drugs for years.

Why, Oh why do people imagine themselves towering defenders of ethics just because they opportunistically can twist an obit, or a death to some point?

'Love covers a multitude of sins'. What's wrong with you people?

Quite surprised at my own reaction here. Very saddened, and I didn't even follow his career closely. Yet another part of my childhood torn away.

He was in the background in quite a big way during the 70s and maintained tangibility right the way through. Ground Control to Major Tom, signing off. RIP.

2016 hasn't started well, has it? What a great loss to the world of entertainment.

As a kid I was probably too snobby with my soundtrack collection to acknowledge Bowie although I did use a fair number of his songs in my projects for O and A level drama.

But later on I discovered what a truly brilliant and unique musician Bowie was and recently I have ventured into his back catalogue quite a lot, especially his earlier work.

Taken away far too young, there will never be another like him. RIP.

Agree with Bill on this (as with many things). I'm an objective rather than an enthusiastic follower, but Mrs TG is a huge fan and was deeply saddened.

I doubt if anyone is unaware of the risks he's taken down the years and they don't need to be raked over in this thread.

I'll always remember "Changes", "Fame" and "Let's Dance" The last two #1 singles. R.I.P. David Bowie. You were one of a kind.

So, everyone who dies of cancer is a rich junky
Ludicrous reaction !

I am/was a big Bowie fan, a very intelligent man, wonderful performer, always re-inventing himself, incorporating other art-forms into music.
Had the pleasure of seeing him several times in concert.
Even the years he was absent, he stayed relevant, and forever will remain so

RIP Mr. Jones
