Ever since the release of the complete '66 series on Blu-ray last year, I was POSITIVE there would be a follow-up release of the underscore by Nelson Riddle and Billy May for the series on CD, either from La La Land or Watertower. I figured that since Fox, DC and the rest of the parties were able to overcome all the rights issues, that the music issues would be cleared as well.

I searched the board first before posting, to see if I could find any updates or discussion about this. And didn't find one. And with today being the series' 50th anniversary, the thought popped into my head again.

Does anyone have any insight as to why the series score music has not been issued yet on CD or even digital download (which I'd HATE, I'd rather own it on hard media)? Or better yet, anyone heard news that it's being digitally remastered and will be out later this year? Thanks in advance.

I think one of the labels said they were considering a box set, but I don't remember where I saw this.

It's one of La La Land MV's holiest of grails which he hopes to release some day, but he has also said it is a complicated release.

Wait, didn't FSM release this a few years back?

The 1966 film score, which frankly is enough Batman music for me, along with the LPs.

An instant purchase from this Batfan. Conspicuous by it's absence considering the iconic nature of the show. I also thought there might have been some progress after the breakthrough release of the dvd/Blu-ray, which I eagerly snapped up (Italian copy without the big box full of stuff).

A huge part of my childhood. I do think a double disc-er with all the important stuff would be enough I think. It wouldn't be dull to those of us who want it, and the Star Trek comment was indeed apt.

I believe La La Land. If anyone is on the case, as far as it's possible, it's going to be them. I feel their enthusiasm! Certainly this would be more desirable, along with Goldenthal's Batman and Robin than much of the stuff from the Nolan stable. Infact I'd trade all three of those for the above two.

Billy May's "Batgirl" theme turned into "The Green Hornet" theme, a variation on "Flight Of The Bumblebee" which was used as the theme for the radio show.
Aside from the "Batman Theme", Neal Hefti's "Batman" LPs were compositions written specifically for the records. Hefti was asked to do the "Hornet" theme but declined.

Thank you for this link! Just read through it all. I'd assumed the music rights wouldn't be as complicated, but now thinking it further, I guess it would be, considering the series itself was "owned" by multiple parties so the music rights probably fall in the same gooey mess. I'm also glad to read that La La Land Records pursuing a release. I own several of their LE Batman/DCAU/The Flash/Arrow releases. And agree with several posters who think a "best of" collection would suffice. When the blu-ray set was released, a friend and I enjoyed trying to remember each theme created for the major villains, i.e. The Riddler and The Penguin. Would just love to listen to them on the go.

Thanks again!

I would be there for a Day 1 purchase. It's got to happen. Sadly, we Batfans of the 1966 show aren't getting any younger.

It may have been discussed before, but it keeps interest in the soundtrack going. I hope it does come out on CDS along with the Six Million Dollar Man

Heck I was in fourth grade when this series began and the Riddler and Penguin and Joker themes still resound in my head. As does same for King Tut. This thread has me trying to conjure up all sorts of music snippets in the mind's ear. For some reason I keep hearing "My Foolish Heart" from the episode with Liberace. And "A Wandering Minstrel I" on a glock and Van Johnson. You grow up with this and Twilight Zone and The Adventures Of Superman and it's no wonder all that great music sticks.

And what BADASS LPs those are!

And one classical music piece (for Mr. Freeze) that wasn't given credit as pre-existing music.

Here is a more "muscular" version of the BATMAN THEME which was very thoughtful:

Ha, the high school dance band played the Batman theme. I was a tenor sax and in the arrangement the saxes carried the rhythm. We were more into traditional big band stuff and saved Batman for when we played at grammar schools. You should have seen those little kids light up.

And the "Gotham Municipal Swing Band" on "Hefti In Gotham City" was used as the bumper music for Oakland California television station KTVU Channel 2's "Creature Features".

Within 3 weeks of the January 12, 1966 premiere of the first episode of "Batman," no fewer than six singles were on record store shelves with music somehow related to the show:
