I join those who would like a reissue (or possible remaster/expansion) of this score. This is one of the most beautiful scores of the Maestro. I really hope one of our labels (Quartet, Music Box, Kronos, GDM, etc.) has it in their pipeline. There are so many less enjoyable score of Morricone that were re-released not one but many times and this gem has been waiting for a re-release for more than 20 years. (The old out of print GDM CD came out in 1995) If there's no legal obstacles it would be a very much welcomed reissue that is long overdue now.
Thanks for bringing this to my attention. I knew a theme from this movie that I have on a compilation. But after all the praise here for the score I searched Youtube and listened to some more of this score, and blimey, it is gorgeous. So I located the CD from a collector in the UK that had one for sale and now I look forward very much to give this a spin on my vintage stereo system. Venice is a magical place and worked wonders for the inspiration of the maestro (as it did before with Rota for his Casanova score).
so glad to see an appreciation thread for this gorgeous music..some of the most enveloping and sensuous music the Maestro has ever penned..I have the double feature cd (with Mosca Addio), I bought it on the secondary market for a little fortune, and I never regretted it. Who else could have had the idea of a main theme with a female chorus softly singing "baci...baci.."? When he's inspired (and all the scores he did for Mauro Bolognini were inspired) he's just unique.
With some delay, partly due to the Christmas hectic, I finally received this CD. It really is superb. What beautiful music. It's like what everyone said, this should get a re-release for those Morricone lovers who don't have it yet. Well worth the effort.
