GOLDSMITH WESTERN ROUND-UP SALE!

We are celebrating the release of TAKE A HARD RIDE with a sensational price on these classic Goldsmith western scores: STAGECOACH, BANDOLERO!, RIO LOBO and BAD GIRLS are only $9.98 each!

Sale price begins 1/26 at 12noon (PST) and is good thru 2/8.

Holy shit, what an amazing sale! Kinda makes me wish I'd waited to upgrade on those...but I've been enjoying those remastered reissues for years so I'm not too sore.

ANYONE without those great western titles who doesn't take advantage of that 50% discount is NUTS! (Assuming you can afford it, of course.) They are all fantastic.

If you have to prioritize because of finances, here's how I would personally prioritize:
1. Rio Lobo
2. Bandolero!
3. Bad Girls (really underrated...some cues like Ambush are full on classic Goldsmith despite a few more simple 90s Goldsmith bits)
4. Stagecoach (don't forget this also has the excellent bonus of his two full scores to The Loner)

So, to repeat an outstanding question from the other thread, who actually conducted Take A Hard Ride - Goldsmith or Lionel Newman?

The lack of an official statement suggests that you are correct.

I've always been curious why Newman conducted some of Goldsmith's scores at Fox, why he received screen credit on some (Sand Pebbles, Alien), and just the "Copyright Fox Fanfare Music, Inc" credit on others. Was it simply contractual? Or did Jerry prefer to be in the booth for these particular scores?

Excellent, just ordered Hard Ride & Bandolero, & I hope there's a few more I buy this year.

We decided on Jerry because you can actually hear him conducting on our material. Newman may have worked on some of it.

I think it very likely that Lionel Newman conducted some of this since it is a somewhat unusual western score with special instruments and effects (ie. synth, which Goldsmith was known to perform himself at times on his scores). He probably should have been credited in the booklet. But I'm actually quite glad that Jerry himself is credited on the cover since he's been confirmed to have conducted some of it.

I mean, would anyone be bothered by the cover of Star Wars: The Force Awakens saying "composed and conducted by John Williams" even though at least two other conductors tackled certain cues? As long as he did some of it the general cover credit is just fine IMO.
