I know this thread is "built for abandonment", but I'll comment anyway (and risk sounding like our own Disco Stu).
Hey......... what........ wait........... no...... now...... ........... ......... what?! What did I do?
Yeah, I remember that garbage. It was made during The Dark Times, when the likes of CHIPS, The Misadventures of Sherff Lobo, and Alice were all on TV...except now the plague had spread to Saturdays which for the most part was filled with the worst kind of schlocky bilge imaginable.
And as for CHiPs, I LOOOOOOOOOOOOVE CHiPs!!! Despite the soul crushing of seeing those wonderful cars destroyed. What follows is absolutely sincere and without any irony or sarcasm: I love Silvestri's music (one of the most played CD sets in my collection. I love its good natured upbeat nature. I love that it is something to aspire to. I love the looks of the show, the scenery, the cars, even the fashions of the late 70s. I know that it has nothing to do with real life, so what? As said, it's something to aspire to. After more than 15 years of "realism" and worshipping scum, thugs, gangster, pimps and other vermin that should be exterminated with extreme prejudice, this is the anodyne.
As for "Happy days" well I never was that much into the series, what appeals to me now is the interesting situation you get when you cross 50s with 70s.
I guess giving a successful sitcom the sci-fi angle was as plausible a Saturday-morning-update as any. The obvious example which springs to mind . . .
There was also the Partridge Family 2200 A.D. which was thankfully a bit before my Saturday-morning-cartoon-watching time (1974-75 season). The theme and effects mirrors that of The Jetsons and every other cheap, crap Hanna-Barbera cartoon--the McDonalds of animation.
Remember Muppet Babies? I came up with the idea of Battlestar Galactica Babies.
Oh, that's a great drawing, Solly! Thanks for posting it.
(The only thing missing is Jamie Bamber "accidentally" letting his diaper slip. )
Thanks friend! Yeah I don't know about a Bamber diaper slip.
For those who don't understand my "slip" reference:
Oh, i remember it well. I was a big BSG fan. The towel scene is famous. It was a huge hit with the ladies, and yes some gents. They made animated gifs of that scene. I personally favored Kat.
The Jetsons were a freaking juggernaut. They do 13 episodes and manage to stay in syndication for EONS.
(And please don't bring up that "attempt" at reviving it.)
Well, 24 episodes actually. But your point is still made. After their run in prime time on ABC in 1962-63, those episodes were run on Saturday mornings on:
