A film that desperately needs a proper restoration, but is being refused that restoration by the imbeciles in charge at MGM.

The mission that became a fortress. The fortress that became a shrine.

Turning a place of worship into a battleground, I wonder what would be the missionary position on that one.

That's a tagline for the film. I found it on imdb.

Well, a former place of worship, anyway. Founded in 1700 as Mission San Francisco de Solano, the mission changed locations several times until the present location was chosen in 1724 and the mission was renamed San Antonio de Valero. By 1793, the mission was secularized and control passed to local authorities. The Spanish military occupied the old mission compound and converted it into a frontier outpost and military garrison. When Mexico declared its independence from Spain in 1821, the mission remained a military outpost. The soldiers of the mission shifted their allegiance to the newly formed independent nation. At the start of the Texas Revolution in 1835, the Mexicans were at first driven out of the mission. Until they came back in force.
