I still think that the old Steiner library list was more helpful...

The point of the BYU holdings link was to show what might be available for future releases. I dont know if it completely coincides with the old "Steiner Library." Does it?

Nevertheless, this BYU list - apparently compiled even about 20 years ago in 1996! - can sometimes be a bit misleading. For example, they list there a tape with a "studio track music recording" of THE BIG SLEEP, although it has long been cleared up by Ray Faiola here on this board during the last few years that nothing from the original BIG SLEEP recording exists there at all.

Correct. The BIG SLEEP recording is an acetate of the Gerhardt suite.

Then it's high time someone corrected the BYU listings. Maybe throw in the track times from the Library tapes, what the hell.

Soitenly!

You guys are the greatest. Man, I remember me & my brother (he ain't heavy) going to see Krakatoa in the movies and were we bored. Had to wait two hours until the fireworks began and when they did...eh. Time Tunnel did it better. But now I look back and love the idea of Max with Max. And my bro, he sho's heavy now! And Caged was on Million Dollar Movie for what seemed every other week. That Hope Emerson was one meanie for the ages. Put a fork in her she's done nyuk nyuk nyuk!

Ah the million dollar movie. Bring back memories of the 430 pm movie and other local marketing efforts that made it special that they were airing a movie. Back in the day before multiple cable channels with movies, vhs and dvd.

Obviously, there is little commercial appeal for these recordings, but I seriously have to wonder why Korngold territory has not yet been touched by Naxos. Similarly, Disques Cinémusique sure could find some of those Steiner library tapes and upload them to the likes of itunes, google, etc. Mind you, this is not a call for bootlegging, but just a search for possibilities to get this material out. Official releases of ALL this material seem to be highly unlikely these days and download versions would have far less production costs than CD runs...

What collectors formerly got from the Steiner library were only audio cassette tapes. Only in 2003 they also began to sell CDRs of some of the scores, but it is clear that this at once became a thorn in the flesh of the executives at Warner and the website then very soon had to disappear completely.
It seems to be quite clear that Disques Cinémusique has no interest to rip those former audio cassettes and offer them as digital downloads. This is not their territory at all. At the moment they concentrate above all on LP and EP rips of records from the early 60s. And as all these (mainly French and US) records which were released till end of 1964 are nowadays public domain in Canada, they have quite a lot of material to choose from. smile

Thank you so much. That was the 430 movie. Love it. They used same animation for movies late at night etc. had best teaser for Escape from POTA.

About 1962 in Boston, Channel 7 at 7:00 PM Saturday evening was adventure theatre. They showed mostly westerns including Max's SPRINGFIELD RIFLE etc., mostly WB films. They had some great opening music that worked perfectly with the visuals. I loved this music but didn't know where it came from. A few years later I found out: Korngold's main title to KING'S ROW!

Helen of Troy is particularly deserving of a re-recording. I'm surprised this isn't currently high on Tadlow's list, seeing as Mr. Fitzpatrick has in the past expressed high regard for the score and dissatisfaction with the re-recorded suite from Silva.

Totally agree. Thank God that I do have that boot, though. Sure wish we could get a re-recording of this wonderful score.
