If this was recorded in 1971, then I think it would have had to occur in January '71. Goldsmith was occupied with other schedules by February that year. It is also known that Goldsmith completed Rio Lobo in October of 1970, so the sessions for The Mephisto Waltz could have been in December of '70, too.
