Oh man, I can't even put into words how fortunate I feel to have started listening to and collecting Jerry Goldsmith's scores starting in 1980. My parents always got the Sunday New York Times, and I would pore over the movie ads in the hopes of seeing Jerry's name on a new flick, and when I did my adrenaline would go vooooom. Especially 1982 and 83, when he turned into a superhuman and produced all those masterpieces. First Blood. Poltergeist. Night Crossing. Under Fire. Twilight Zone: The Movie. The Secret of NIMH. Inchon. We were so spoiled by those musical riches, and the same could be said of his 60s and 70s work, too, and plenty in the 90s. Happy Birthday, Jerry, wherever you are. If humans have souls, your music will always be a big part of mine until I kick the proverbial bucket. -
