This has been an ongoing story for over 20 years! Along with a Forbidden Planet remake.

It was a long slog for Glen Larson's '78 version (originally "Adam's Ark") too. It was originally conceived as a TV project. When Star Wars taught everybody how much there was to be made in theatrical sci-fi, it was the "kick in the pants" needed to convince Universal to go ahead with it -- even to release a tightened-up version of the three-hour pilot episode in theaters.

--The same kick in the pants Star Trek and Buck Rogers needed for their own "green lights."

Star Wars is raking in the dough again. Get ready, again, for the copycat/wannabe onslaught.

The farther away this new film is from that stick, stone stupid reboot from a few years ago, the better.
