Ok I need some help here! When I got home from work today there was a package waiting for me- it was addressed to me, from the Awards Dept of Universal- it was a dvd of RED DRAGON and the cd soundtrack!!! What the heck?? I never entered any contests... and the parcel contained a letter from the Director, Brett Ratner, praising Elfmans music. The letter was addressed to "Dear Film Score Monthly Reader"... I am so mystified by this- did anyone else from this board get this in the mail??? I don't even think the movie is out yet on dvd, right?? The case has no picture, just the title RED DRAGON, and it is indeed the film, but no menu... almost like it should have gone to an academy member or something... don't get me wrong, I am sycked to get this- maybe Ratner is doing it for all the FSM subscribers... kinda cool! I hope someone can shed a little light on this for me.... A grateful fan, John F

The director of Red Dragon, Brett Ratner, is a fan of film music and likes the magazine, and wanted to do something nice for FSM subscribers as well as promote his film and the score by Danny Elfman. So we sent him labels for U.S. subscribers only (sorry overseas people) and he sent out a package to those people. No catch! Just a gift. And yeah, it's a one-time thing... Lukas

Yeah, I got this in the mail today and was like, WTF? Too bad I already picked up a copy of Elfman's score (and that I didn't care for the movie. Give me Manhunter any day). Still, a completely pleasing surprise. Thanks, Brett and Lukas!

What about Canadian subscribers? We're not exactly overseas....

Mine came yesterday, so I guess this is the "Thanks to Brett Ratner" thread now, eh? Hope he reads this, and this very cool gesture will go down in film score gratitude history, for sure! I know that everyone one of us thought for just a moment, how cool that due to some sort of error, we now get to vote for the Academy! I know I did, until JohnF burst my bubble with this thread Of course, and this has to be asked just for the hell of it, how DOES one become an Academy member? If your a lowly grip on a set, or an extra in a film, are you eligible? Just curious.... Thanks very much Mr. Ratner, good to know some of you guys are 'on our side' Best, Sean
