This is my favorite oldie of the 1940s with Eddie G and Bogart at their best. Masterful film by John Huston, and while scores of this period don't typically suit my tastes, Steiner's score for Key Largo is a lush piece of work that remains as memorable as ever. It stands out and is worthy of some love. Anybody know if the master tapes exist? I couldn't find a single thread about it. Any other fans of this film/score? Looks great on Blu-ray!

I'm a fan and I know for sure my friend, PFK, is also. Yes indeed Cody, I've been a fan of KEY LARGO since about 1960! Great great film and a wonderful Max Steiner score. Edward G. Robinson gave one of his last and maybe best gangster portrayals. James Cagney did the fabulous WHITE HEAT, with an excellent Max Steiner score, about the same time. The late 1940s seemed to mark an end to the classic Warner Bros. gangster films. I too would like to see the complete Steiner scores to KEY LARGO and WHITE HEAT issued on CDs if possible. Bogart, Robinson, Cagney and Steiner! You can't top that!

I'm definitely a fan of Steiner's score. There's a suite on the Gerhardt Bogart album that closes the program; not sure of another recording, but it covers most of the thematic material I think. One of my favorite Bogart films and arguably his best pairing with Bacall. It's really nice to see it treated so well on Blu-ray. Be sure to check out The Big Sleep, recently released as well.

The Gerhardt suite runs 5 minutes and covers the following cues: Main Title; The Bridge; McCloud and Mrs. Temple; Reminiscence; Morning; Finale. Also, on the Rhino CD "Classic Film Noir Themes and Scenes," there's a suite built up from the mixed tracks that covers "main title (cast, key largo, the keys, the bus, bus stop)/moanin' low."

Since I haven't seen this since the 80's, it's time I did so again. This is the one where Claire Trevor got all the attention for her role, right?

And Barrymore did his usual....?

This is the one where Claire Trevor got all the attention for her role, right? Claire Trevor won the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress. KEY LARGO was John Huston's last film for Warner Bros., and the last film that Bogart and Bacall made together.

The Gerhardt suite runs 5:14. A release of the original tracks would be nice, especially as the score sounds pretty good in the film, but I would love a new recording of this score.

Here's what PFK is referring to, from a thread about Max Steiner music. Posted: Mar 5, 2015 - 11:38 AM By: Ray Faiola (Member) KEY LARGO survives nearly complete. THE BIG SLEEP is completely missing in action. What a pity! But Gerhardt's suite is terrific. http://filmscoremonthly.com/board/posts.cfm?threadID=108641&forumID=1&archive=0 (I mentioned both in that thread - BIG SLEEP is my favorite of the two scores, though love both films equally.)
