Anyone here aware of this set? Apparently it's a playlist of the concert. It seems very comprehensive.

Looks good. Too bad there's no sound samples.

I have it, and it's quite good. It is the entire concert... the first disc being the concert's first half and the second disc picking up following the intermission. Those who have seen the concert live will appreciate it more. Some of it may seem a little disjointed without the visual references to tie the disparate musical styles together. Some of the cues from the later television episodes are little more than audio wallpaper without the visuals to give them some context.

Jerry Goldsmith is deservedly well represented, but I was somewhat disappointed that James Horner had just one cue. The concert, and therefore the CD set, is far from comprehensive, but it's a pretty decent two-hour walk through 50 years of musical history. It's well performed and quite enjoyable, but mostly for Trek fans.

I think I will hold off and spend my 50th Anniversary Star Trek dollars on La La Land's upcoming CD set. smile

But thanks for letting us know about this release, for those of us that couldn't check out the concert in person!

I am tempted to look at this CD but I want to be surprised when I see the concert this weekend!

Your welcome. I should add that the CD set comes with a very nice booklet with liner notes by Jeff Bond. Very well written and detailed, as usual for Mr. Bond. I, too, will be getting La La Land's upcoming set, but being a diehard Trekkie, I had to have this too.

And it's pretty hard to read the track list too. frown

Does this include "just" the music or are there bits from the concert audience included? (Applause and stuff like that?)

I haven't heard anything about a new "Star Trek" release from La La Land lately.

Is it a big fat "Voyager" collection? I'd like that a lot.

RR, in addition to the STTNG Volume 2 released a couple of months ago, there's this:

STAR TREK 50th Anni. La-La Land/TAKING REQUESTS!

Just went to the live concert event last night. It was a fantastic show and the orchestra sounded great! If it comes to your town, and you can scrounge up the $45 or so for a ticket, definitely go.

It was recorded in a studio without an audience, but it is the entire program of the live show.

So it's a new recording of all that music, not just a compilation of the OSTs?

So it's a new recording of all that music, not just a compilation of the OSTs?

That's correct. I saw the show a few weeks ago in Boston and was very impressed by the performances of the music, they were all very faithful to the originals. A few missed notes here and there, but overall it was an excellent show. They are all original arrangements too, with a few small edits here and there...for example, the Ba'ku theme from Insurrection is basically the main title from that film, but with the opening statement of the Courage fanfare removed. At the end, the theme fades out rather than moving into the underscore as the film proper begins, with Starfleet observing the village. (The same thing happens when the First Contact theme is played.)

The final track, the Original Series theme, is the concert version arranged by Courage himself (the same version found on Cincinnati Pops album "Star Tracks" and Boston Pops album "Out of this World").

I am going on Saturday night. How long does the entire program run?. I am having a hard time reaching the box office to find this out? Nothing but recorded messages giving me information that I am not looking for.

Having the First Contact theme on its own (not in End Credits suite or with Borg music intruding at the end) makes this very tempting...
