It opened in cinemas across the UK last week. Not seen it yet.
I personally liked the score. it was the big stand-out for me.
I also think there was a serious problem with the screenplay/script and the editing (particular the first 2/3s of the film), with the narrative wobbling here and there and the dialogue not tuned into forwarding the narrative. As someones else mentioned, the acting was wooden in parts - especially from the children, which I think pointed to how much more accomplished the child actors were in the Harry Potter films.
Still can't find the score on amazon.uk but see it is ready for pre-order on screen archives.
I can't believe this was adapted from a children's book! Filled with grotesque imagery and violence against children it deserves it's PG-13 rating. Has anyone read the books; are they similar in tone/
Anyway, another big misfire from Burton; FRANENWEENIE, DARK SHADOWS... He seemed to be on a comeback after CCF and ALICE but now his cgi infatuation is overwhelming his talent brm
ps I know many of you hated ALICE, but even the haters thought it was one of Elfman's best ever scores

btw anyone else think this is a rip-off of X-MEN. Instead of Dr. Xavier's home for mutants you have Miss Peregrines home for.... mutants. In both case the children possess one and only power (and some of them overlap) like turning people cold (sound familiar?)
All things considered, there's not *that* much CGI in this movie. There are lots of sets and the vast majority of the movie was shot on-location - I thought it looked very real.
The movie falls apart in the last third but it's pretty good until then. And at least if fall apart in a 'What the heck was that?' way as opposed to a more generic way.

My spouse has read the first book, and the tone is similar - although she says there are a significant number of alterations to plot and character. They're "young adult" books, meaning that their typical audience is teenagers. Consistent with the PG-13 rating.
I thought the movie was thoroughly mediocre, but I at least thought that the skeleton battle was fun.
