I think that should be on dreadful songs that ruined the 80s thread! That predictable bass line, the bland vocals ...if you find out what it is, please keep it a secret!

Working the puzzle, far too many pieces. Sinking in confusion. ???? Girl, ???? It's not the way you planned it. Unexpected. Those are the lyrics I can hear. As I usually do when trying to ID a song I fed them into the search browser, but came up with nothing. It sounds like a duet. One singer sings the jigsaw puzzle bit (she sounds somewhat Laura Branigan-ish), while it sounds like another sings the lyrics I can't quite understand (The "Girl" has a strong Michael Jackson imitative sound to it, btw). They join together for "sinking in confusion" and the last part. Weird that I can't come up with a match while searching various combinations of these lyrics. Anybody know of any song lyric search engines?

Anybody know of any song lyric search engines? Many thanks for taking the time to post me a helpful and proactive response, Mark. I hadn't considered that it might be a duet, but now you've mentioned it, I wonder... It doesn't help matters that this clip is probably the middle of the song so the lyrics seem a little ambiguous to say the least. There are a few more seconds to the clip I have and the lyrics seem to be: Working the puzzle, far too many pieces. Sinking in confusion. Oh, oh ???? fight it, love can come ???? It's not the way you planned it. Unexpected. Who are you now? Where are you [something something??] Oh, it's not just good or bad, it's just too much Like you, I've tried googling the lyrics but that doesn't come up with anything at all. A friend used shazam and that said it was "Shyer" by London Grammar, which it totally is not! I agree the voice is similar to Laura Branigan's, and someone else has suggested it's a Canadian act (like Parachute Club or Rough Trade). I know it's not a great song but I do like that funky slow-burn rhythm, so any help tracking this down would be much appreciated! Thanks again for your help, Mark

I'm intrigued. Unlike =ahem= several people on this forum, I love the 80s! So even a relatively mediocre track like this is far more listenable to me than 99% of what passes for pop music these days.

It's familiar, vaguely, but y'know, the title is probably in the refrain part, and the clip doesn't extend to include what would surely be the most distinctive and easily recognisable part of a song like this, namely the CHORUS! The song is building up to something we never hear!

I just read it yet. I' m a child of the 80' s, grew up with the music and TV- series. Sounds familiar to me too and I vaguely remember it, but the trouble, I often know the songs, but not the artists or title and like WILLIAMDMCCRUM mentioned, without the chorus, it' s really hard. Where do you got the pieces from? If you like, I can set the two links into a german 80' s forum and ask for help? Maybe we' re lucky and someone knows it there. Thanks for your response bearsoul77! It is definitely most frustrating not having the actual chorus but that's all I have. It was taped off the TV years ago and unfortunately I have no idea what the programme was called. But quite a few '80s children seem to recall it so please go ahead and post on your German forum and maybe we will get lucky! Thanks again...

I put it into a german forum. I got first replies, unfortunately the links don' t work. One member says, it' s the problem of watzatsong, that it more of half of the time is of the server. Roadshowfan, could you might put the pieces together behind on youtube, so the german members there could listen? Thanks for doing that bearsoul. Unfortunately, Watzatsong seem to have regular issues with their server so the site can be inaccessible for several hours at a time. But the links should still be active once the server is up and running, so I'd be really grateful if your German pop fans could try them again later. Sadly, I'm not techy enough to know how to post the music anywhere else!

Still haven't had any luck getting this song identified but there is now a youtube link with the two samples stitched together. Would you mind posting this link on your German pop forum? Many thanks! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=onqt6SdG7m0
