"Great recording, Thanks James and Luc again FANTASTIC. One mistake in the booklet Alexander Korda married Merle Oberon and Vivien Leigh married Laurence Olivier at that time."

***

Like Long Island Dave, I noticed that glitch in Mr. DeWald's very informative liner notes. One other misstatement, I think, occurs in his description of the Main Titles: "Rozsa begins this Arabian Nights fantasy with a heraldic fanfare based on Ahmad's theme. Unaccompanied women's voices introduce the princess' theme, which is taken over by full orchestra." Actually, the a capella chorus continues with Ahmad's theme. The Princess' theme first appears in Track #3, "Jaffar and the Doctor."

Thanks for the corrections where needed--they are appreciated. In spite of about eight people looking over the text for errors, glitches still sneak through. The amazing thing is the music, and it's great that everyone is enjoying it!

If Tadlow is going to cease recording, I wonder if Luc at Prometheus might start funding Tribute recordings. I know Bill, Anna, and John are raring to go back to work as soon as there is the money to do so!

Interesting. No reflection on Tadlow for whom I am eternally grateful (I'm not counting them out yet!), Tribute's recording of Mysterious Island was also a landmark for me.

It is a shame that things must end, but such is life. After listening to TTOB I feel that The City of Prague Philharmonic Orchestra has really matured into a first class orchestra. What they will to do for Ben Hur under Tadlow's direction will be exceptional.

James, do you mean that when you retire the Tadlow label of new recordings of old scores retires with you. Wouldn't you like to see someone take your place? I know that filling your shoes would be a very difficult thing to do.

Cody, I think that you and PFK would be the perfect people to take over when James retires...see what ye can do!!!

Niall, my "talent" strictly lies in listening to beautiful music as Tadlow has given us over the years. If Prometheus will continue to stay in business, where will they go to have new recordings made ?

Cody, I think you and I can handle it as long as Niall supplies us with the money! smile

Tadlow Music Ltd...Contracting and orchestral supervision company and Tadlow Music the label have always been a one person company totally funded by your truly. So when I retired that is the end of Tadlow Music.

You have certainly well-earned a retirement James. You have issued so many great scores I never dreamed I would ever see. Back in the 1960s I figured the LPs I obtained, that would be it. 50 years later I never dreamed I would see the Rozsa, Tiomkin, Waxman, Jarre etc. Many thanks and perhaps you can push that retirement back just a bit! smile

Very interesting comments Yavar. You would think a record label would hire Bill and John even for a CD or two to test the waters. We can always hope .......

Well apparently they were having some sort of discussions with Doug/Intrada. Doug even wrote about it in one of his Doug's Corner columns:
http://www.intrada.net/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?f=4&t=2657&view=previous

But sadly, apparently nothing has come of that conversation. Maybe if Luc wants to do more new recordings going forward, the Tribute team will have a renewed mission.

That would be an ideal solution, but since Luc has no love for social media we will not know until James actually says bye bye.

Luc is of same generation as me...so we both might go into disgraceful retirement around the same time...

Truly the end of an important era and something that was great. But big thanks to James and Luc for all the great things they have done. Wishing you both a happy retirement.

Yes, "lets not rush it ! ". I don't think Nic Raine and The City of Prague Philharmonic are ready to call it quits on recording older classic scores. Perhaps Silva will get back into the picture. There is no better encouragement to keep things going than brisk sales. SO EVERYONE .... DO YOUR PART !

I'm listening to The Thief of Baghdad right now. What a truly superb recording and release!!! I think this may be the best yet from Tadlow and Prometheus. It's a pure joy to listen to. Much thanks to James, Nic, Luc, and everyone connected...and of course a certain Miklos Rozsa. Great days... long may they continue!

I never said we are off to old foggies farm immediately...I just said after Ben-Hur I doubt I could afford any more recordings before retirement beckons...

Ah, but hopefully Luc can afford a few more... smile

Has the Prometheus Goldsmith series ended? (Is Thriller a Tadlow release like The Blue Max?)

Thank heavens for that James! I hope you might be able to do some more after Ben Hur. I'm still listening to The Thief of Baghdad and loving it!

Do you noticed that The Flying Horse (alternate 2) is based in part on the same four notes which begin and finish The New England Concerto ? Of course this Concerto was an expantion of the short one written for LYDIA in 1941, juste after THIEF.

Sorry for this off-topic question, but, about this New England Concerto - the long version included on the Varèse album (conducted by Bernstein) : was it an arrangement from Rozsa's hand (based on his short Lydia version and the arrangements by Mario Castelnuovo-Tedesco for Time out of Mind), or someone else's hand ?

Well, that certainly gives us a little more hope in keeping the Tadlow name from riding off into the sunset.
